Scads of work, that's what I didn't get to but c'est la vie.

My stomach is back to acting up so I'm glad I'm going to the doc on friday. But I wished I had remembered that before going out to eat tonight. Because I have a dinner on wednesday to attend and of course in Huntington once I'm done with doc.

I cooked SO much yesterday so let me show you.

photo 100_5084_zpszon2dujy.jpg This was a take on Giada's Orange-Ricotta pie. Between pine nuts being pricey AND us driving the pine trees to extinction with all of this stuff, I doubled the rice. I probably should have just went 1 1/2.

What my eggs were MEANT to look like photo 100_5087_zpsfplvuow2.jpg

photo 100_5090_zpsalkhs6nn.jpg my actual effort. they give you this tiny brush but only two so washing it out was a mess.

photo 100_5091_zps0c4gjqvf.jpg they look more gold in person and are pretty but nothing like promised.

photo 100_5093_zpskfbyb9re.jpg homemade pickled tomato and fennel salad

photo 100_5094_zpsrxxtsc5e.jpg Apricot & lavender mustard glazed ham

photo 100_5098_zpspblzn8ei.jpg Grandma's parmasen cheese bread. I did something wrong. I cut it down but not right. It was more like Panera's asaigo cheese bagels. good, tasty but not right. I don't want to share this until I get it better.

And a prisoner escaped not too far from here. A murderer. With a track record of escaping so naturally bringing him from Cleveland out to the country in a min. security prison made so much sense.

I can't believe I'm nearly done with work until August. April will be INSANE.

So naturally I'm doing Camp Nano. Is anyone else?

I heard about that prisoner and thought, Wonder if that's close to CoM.

...since, you know, we're repossessing a trailer up that way and I started recognizing county and city and even road names...why not a murderer on the loose near you, too?

It's over by Athens so not so close to me but that's where the steampunk group meets

and snort. you'll probably repossesse a lot of trailers here

Those eggs--how disappointing. The picture on the box was beautiful. I say next year you just spray-paint the suckers. Egg dyes--all of them--are for the birds.

Your escaped murderer is probably running away from Ohio as fast as he can. I'd worry more about him showing up at my house than at yours, since Florida seems to be the go-to destination for nut-cases and fugitives.

The ham and cheese bread look wonderful.

I'm like, "Brown County? Mt. Orab?"

I won't usually be involved in the repo part. This was (hopefully) a one-time thing.

thanks. they turned out pretty good

They were disappoint but pretty enough for store bought dye. Usually I just dunk them in red cabbage juie.

Yes he probably is headed your way. enjoy. I never get enough of following Florida Man on twitter

Mmmmmm, cheese bread.

I managed to get a better look from that gold egg dye set, but I can't remember what I did to achieve it (it was a few years ago now) - I posted the pictures, I'll have to go find them.

We barely remembered it was Easter. Sort of just snuck up on me...

once I figure out what I did wrong so it's not quite the tasty lead weight it is now I'll share because I'm the last in the family really. The recipe should go on.

Maybe you used a real brush. I got bored.

it does that

Sounds like a leavening problem. Yeast, or soda bread?

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeast and that could be the problem since I'm adjusting from cake yeast which isn't sold any more. and online I saw conflicts of what the conversions should be. also there wasn't enough wet for the dry

Ah. I've never used cake yeast. Dry is easy - most recipes only need a teaspoon or two at the very most; and if you use instant yeast (I get it from King Arthur), it doesn't even need to be proofed first.

I put in one and a half packets. maybe should have put in two

I usually do fun things like release mortgages for payoffs.

Or just one. (Less is more.) Did you proof it first (warm water w/a little sugar)?

(Sorry, I'm a fiend about bread baking anymore...)

i'm not sure one would have been enough. yes I proofed it.

The thing I've learned about using yeast is that more is not necessarily a good thing.

But if you proofed it, well.... not sure. Mmmmm.

It was freshly bought to not that it means much. I did use less than the recipe...maybe...or too much since NO ONE seems to agree on how to do a conversion from cake yeast to dry.

now it is a heavy bread. I probably need a tad more water and grandma's been gone for nearly 20 years now (omg how??) so I might be misremembering the texture

Yes, and an external customer yesterday told me she was putting me in for employee of the year, so I guess I'm doing all right!

Are you willing to share the recipe? I could give it a try and see what comes out....

Let me double check it with mom. it's very possible I transposed something especially since i have the same amount of flour in the full recipe and the half....
