Getting ready to go back
Nov. 1st, 2004 10:57 pmWell I got everything packed with Evil Little Dog and Silverthorn's help. It was rough. ELD still has a huge job ahead of her. The stupid thing is the cost of doing this is extreme. Let me clue you in for those of you who sell on Ebay and/or do holiday gift sending. Media Mail (books, magazines, CDs VHS, DVD's and comic books) is the cheapest way to go. Mom was bitching at me for three days now about me having books and all but you know THAT was the cheapest thing to mail. Over a dozen boxes at 100$ even.
Do NOT use the UPS Store. Go to a UPS drop off like Office Depot. The actual store is about 5-10$ MORE than a UPS drop off and media mail is much cheaper if you're mailing that (and only that. They now open it to be sure!) UPS goes by weight and box dimension (and curiously THEIR boxes cost more to send that the weird shape heavier boxes I sent) that was 200$. WHile Mom was yelling at me for wasting money I pointed out that it was UPS that cost me the arm and a leg and it was CLOTHING. She's like I don't know why you didn't just get rid of it all. You know That clothing I COULD have gotten rid of. It was the old stuff but you get so worked up you don't even think about it,you know? Too late now. After the chorus of 'I told you NOT to buy anything while you're down there.' (I lived here three years. Do you know anyone who buys nothing and gets no gifts in 3 years?), I've still got 12 more boxes to go. (WHY does she think I was arguing to just fucking rent a moving van back in July?I KNEW how much stuff was here).
Going to try to vote tomorrow. Will see what happens. I'm not sure I can since I was SUPPOSED to get an absentee ballot and Florida lost it (along with nearly 60,000 other ones). If they have me down as getting that ballot, I'm screwed. I didn't even get time to help ELD pack up anything. and I don't have my lecture ready for Wed and I don't get in until midnight tomorrow. Yep, screwed. (I have a 7 hour lay over in Minn. If I knew where to ditch my carry-on I'd go to the Mall of the Americas again while I'm there. Sigh.
Didn't even really get a good start on Nanowrimo because of all of this. Sigh. Here's hoping the flight up isn't as terrible as the flight here.
