two days into it
Aug. 23rd, 2005 10:23 pmand so far so good. Lab sucked eggs. No one cared, me included. My students are better at conversions than me (no surprise there) and sadly in constructing the lab CC and I should have taken the time to think things through a little better and gotten square/rectangular tupperware containers AND have one empty one for the experiment. It didn't work with pickle jars. And thank you to the school for a) having only ONE thermometer and B) having microscopes that look like they came from my junior wizard set that I had when I was 5. I have never ever even in high school had scopes this primative.
My second class (the poor lonley night class stuck with me for THREE hours, nice thing to do to non-majors) was a little more responsive and I had three boys with lovely Irish accents (we compete in 'soccer' here so we import the team from the UK) but I could lose them because once again NO ONE mentioned the 2 hour lab (this happenedin the first class too) when they let the students sign up. Soccer is thursday nights. They'd miss ever lab. Trying to help them into other classes. Sob.
And I didn't have the key to the power point projector room. They siad I did but I don't. I looked like an idiot reading off the powerpoint lecture I had printed for them. THank god I did that much or it would have been a short as hell lecture.
I'm having problems with my heat pump. It's deliciously cool out but turning my a/c to off and opening the windows didn't help. I was thinking huh, it's getting hotter. Well....maybe air isn't circulating. So I got to make my tea and it's like an OVEN in the living room and kitchen. Well turning the controls to off turned on the HEATER. (it has three settings, heat, off and cool. Apparently off = heater). Nothing like having the furnace kick on. Wah. I want the damn a/c off so I can save some money and I like the windows being open.
