Writerly Ways
Jul. 29th, 2012 02:33 pmYesterday I posted up some writing meta on dealing with alternative history and alternative realities on Jana’s blog. If you’d like to check it out and join the conversation, you can find it here.
I’m not sure what it is about the summer heat but it has me writing like mad (most likely my fear of getting any natural light on me or, you know sweating has me locked up inside). And new ideas are popping up all over to the point I feel like I have to play whack a mole just to knock a few down so I can concentrate on one. Really, it’s not that bad of a problem to have, though it is killing my desire to edit. I’m going to have to step that up a little.
I’m not the only one facing that issue.
silvrethorn just got sneak attacked by a steampunk venture and
evil_little_dog is dealing with a hapless mage and the demon he didn’t exactly mean to summon. Anyone else suddenly facing a story that has blindsided you out of nowhere? How do you handle it when it does?
As for me, I often write out a scene or two just to get them free of my head so I can concentrate on things I need to be working on. As for the rest I try to write down a few notes and put it in a file that I will hopefully get back to. I can’t promise that I will. I have dozens of broken, half written stories. I swear if I could ever afford to write full time, I have a huge well to draw from to get that story done in a few months if need be.
silvrethorn mentioned that her new idea might overrun her nano idea and it’s NOT too early to be thinking about that. It’ll be August before the week’s end, just three months ahead of the big event. Like many of us, she already has ideas for that project. I know I did. I was planning on writing the novel for Temple et al and I really SHOULD because it would be bad to have 1-2 years between in and the other stories. But that one will require much research and it would be so much easier to write Nine and Reko’s story or Gideon and Madog’s. (Yes I did decide on an erotica for this year since I didn’t do one last year, and let’s admit it, they are so much easier to publish which I know is a rotten reason to do it.)
Any thoughts on this? Let’s hear them.
I have no edited a damn thing other than Staples and sent it back to the publisher. Bad CoM bad. But I have been writing. Check it out. I’ve about 30K over what my yearly goal was. That’s pretty astonishing.
