A Word of Welcome. As the Madog Fellow, I was invited to the first annual St. David's Day festival (why it wasn't last weekend I don't know). It was hosted by the Welsh American Heritage Museum but was at the church across the street. I would like to go see the museum some day.

I wasn't expecting much from the banquet and that's what I got. The choices were baked chicken or baked steak. I had no idea what that latter could even be. I took one look at the abundance of chicken and took the last mystery meat bit. It was skinless, sauceless, spice-less and grey chicken. So the baked steak turned out to be a Salisbury steak covered in pepper gravy. Hurl. Thank god there was pie.

One of our art professors and former Madog Fellow did a talk on Celtic art in Welsh vs Welsh American tombstones. Yay another taphophile. And another coworker's son's first child was born in the middle of the thing (well the baby was born in CA but the new grandparents were seated with me).

Our Welsh exchange student had an amazing singing voice. She made us sing. All I can say is the only thing more scary than me singing in English is me trying to sing in Welsh. Gwahoddiad and Hen Wlad Fy Nhad have never been sung quite like that.

And my damn Tom Tom tried to kill me. (me and electronics). I noticed when I was checking the distance on Google Maps than the way I usually go to Oak Hill wasn't even listed. I was running late so didn't try it until the way back. It was a lovely day so why not take the back roads? I thought it was going to go C D & H Road to Dixon Run. No it was C D & H to Evans road. How could I resist? I startled more than one hillbilly flying by. Then at 2 miles from home (out of an 11 mile trip) it says 'turn left onto unnamed road' I look and see the next turn is Vega road after that.

And I knew. I knew just where this would come out, the cemetery at the top of the hill I live at the bottom of. That road is dirt. Not gravel/chunks of asphalt like C D & H and Evans Rd. No, flat out dirt, mud and water. I had a choice. Go back nearly the entire way or go over the dirt and be home in 2 minutes. Cowabunga! Over the dirt I went and THREE freaking cars came up this one lane goat path as it is. That said I still want that house next to the cemetery.
