Community Theatre
Feb. 21st, 2014 10:52 pmSome times it's exactly what you're expecting. Rarely does it exceed those expectations. Tonight was not my night. My friend L asked me to come to her play as I have so many times before. They had a new venue. Oh dear god, I just wish they could afford to have it at the college (they have to split the pot) because these venues are BRUTAL. I literally couldn't get to my feet after an hour and a half on a plastic chair.
The actors are well the same actors as always and they are exactly what I expect of community theatre. Well meaning, passionate but well...just not that good. At least this one was a funny murder mystery and I did have fun. I got a bunch of people to go. Two of them went with me to dinner. China One, the crappy buffet. It WAS better than usual so there was that.
At least it beats coming home and doing nothing. I did get to talk to BB about my edits (She's the chair of the English dept) and even she has no idea why these publishing houses are doing some of this but like me she's older. Now we both feel old and out of touch.
You all know I hate politics. I rarely put them in my LJ for that reason but I needed to share this blog post by George Takei about what's going on in Arizona. How can you hold so much hate inside you? I can't even imagine how horrible and marginalized people have to feel with something this ugly getting THIS far. Oddly, AZ is where a huge chunk of my lesbian friends call home. I feel for them and I hate feeling this helpless. And to the idiots claiming this is a Christian movement, let me remind you of Matthew 22:36-40. You've completely missed what Christ said.
And on a MUCH happier note here is this random act of kindness from the former Dr. Who. Matt Smith sends a greeting to a terminally ill little boy Thanks to my friend ES for sharing this.
