I spent all afternoon at Rathacon
May. 9th, 2015 10:26 pmYes, let that pun sink in a little :-) and I mostly spent it manning the Airship Athena and flirting with Mr. Tikills. My friend MKF was pretty amused by this. I've never seen you flirt like that. Well you've never presented me with a deranged psychopath before. Apparently that's my type. Who knew? He was amazing, sort of a Joker inspired insane clown type but he was ON all day, completely embracing the character.
So, Rathacon is a tiny pop culture SF/Horror con in Athens OH. It's only their third year and the first I could go because it's usually the second weekend in May which is usually graduation for me. And how lucky was this condensed semester? I would have been outside in 90+ degree sun in full regalia otherwise today. Honestly I think the con organizers are making a mistake. By this time all of Ohio U's students are gone. This would make more sense in the fall but oh well.
I had a great time really. I never get to play with my airship because I live some 60 miles from where they usually meet. So I spent a lot of the con manning the table and letting them go play. They had a presentation to do that went over well (and I hope to get to do a few things to help prepare for the next thing in September).
I, of course, have no willpower what so ever and had to BUY things (some for me some for gifts). I bought this from a teenager who either is friends with MKF's daughter or MKF and her mom are friends (I forget now). She had the most adorable fantasy fox-like creatures
Neon Nerds and check out the rest of her DA account. Cute stuff.
I talked the guys at Electromagnetic Press, an indie comic book company but ended up buying the books by their friend, Melanie Karsak. I got the first two in her steampunk series. Eh it was like 9$ a piece or 2 for 15$, might as well try two.
And I spent some time talking to Kelci Crawford, another indie comic artist who has three, going to four soon, webcomics. I had to get the comic about the transgendered woman comic nerd. She was invited in part because she WAS doing LGBT SF. Which led me to say boy, I know a lot of people who would love to make that inroad which lead to me getting introduce to the organizer. If it IS mother's day weekend next year I probably can't go but I will keep it in mind. I would gladly get a table.
I got a neat fork bracelet (will take pictures) from Ferro Family Missions & Twisted Design. I loved that they help the homeless and her stuff was nice. She got a tad techy with me when I said 'hey I have this skeleton girl cameo.' I was informed she does all her stuff herself. I'm like yeah but I know where you're buying the pieces that you're using because I have that octopus over there TOO (I didn't say it but I'm like lady you're talking to two people who make their own jewelry too. I'm buying this because I don't have the strength to do silverware jewelry and I think it's a neat use of old mismatched sets).
And then there was the Ghostbusters: West Virginia Division raising money for charity. They were fun. They gave me a team button.
I found the card for Let Us Nerd in my stuff. I swear I don't know where it came from but I friended them on Twitter because I'm all for nerding.
I got a Godzilla pie from Avalanche Pizza and I have to say this is the second time where I've been meh about the chicken (organic or no). It's yummy otherwise. I HAVE to work in I was a teenaged Vegan Werewolf into my m/m/m story here in Athens just to piss off Derek.
And now what you've all been waiting for. Pictures!
( You know you have to see Mr. Tikills! )
But but but you say, where's your airship? I didn't get any of them. go figure. I'm waiting for some to get posted up. I'll share those tomorrow or something.
And inspirational youtube for the day.
