I met up with my group the Airship Athena for Rathacon a little local pop culture con. I like it and I'm hoping that we'll be more active this year as two of the main players are graduating graduate school and can breathe a little.
We had the shooting gallery (the shoot the duck sort) up and raised 20$ for the local charity (The Stuart Opera House) which was cool. I didn't win any of the raffles I entered but that's okay. I didn't even buy that much, two books and a pretty dragon eye necklace and pin (they were pricey but they're sculpted and just fantastic.
Shawn Langley (comic book artist) was there but I can't say I was that thrilled with his style.
It was well attended (gee moving it to when Ohio University students were still around helped! I got to try Holy Guacamole food truck which the whole town has been raving about for the last couple years. It was good. I got beef tamales though it was a tad on the bland side.
I met up with a friend there, MLF got me into the group but she's working with the Human vs Zombies game lately. SHe hasn't been able to get to the writers group much either so we haven't been hanging out. I suggested dinner after. We were going to go to Steak and Shake but her daughter found me when I was helping to tear down our display and said it was slammed (Yeah I'm NOT standing in the rain for that. It's new here so people are excited). We went to IHOP. A) I didn't know we had one of those now too (Athens is exploding with new stuff. I'm most excited for the upcoming Marshalls!!) B) I haven't been to an IHOP in a couple years. Lots of new stuff. I got a monte christo sandwich. Never had one using pancakes as bread. It was good and the waitress liked us so much when she gave MLF a mocha to go, she gave me one gratis. Guess who got a bigger tip?
My camera battery died and I'm too tired to wokr up the links so you'll have to wait on all the pics etc.
We DID have some excitement at the con. The announcer started the costume contest early because one of the contestants' water broke and she was in labor but didn't want to go to the hospital until she got to show off her costume. That'll make for an interesting story for the kid down the road.
