Writerly Ways
Jul. 18th, 2021 04:56 pmI've been thinking a bit about something I've been seeing lately in this round of submissions. We hear a lot about increasing BIPOC authors (and I'm all for that). However I found tons of anthologies and magazines/podcasts that are not allowing for ANY identifying information on a submission. It's a blind submission no names etc on your manuscript. Which yes, let's be honest you can take a good guess about ethnicity sometimes based on names. Not always of course but it is a clue. I'm wondering exactly what is this about? An end run around bringing more BIPOC authors into the fold? An honest attempt to take race out of the picture?
I'm not sure I know but I do know it rather makes me uneasy. I'm not sure if I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill or what here. Anyhow it's curious.
