Challenge #11
In your own space, Talk about your favorite trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
There is always this urge to say I don't really have them because it always takes some thought to bring them to mind. Of course I have tropes. And if I spend a second thinking on it they are obvious. I have a ton of tropes that I like.
First and foremost is whump and hurt/comfort. It feels strange saying that in a way. I like hurting characters. Hmmm. I don't think for a second it means anything sinister. It adds high stakes to the story and that is tantalizing. A few months back I ran across a station rerunning old shows and they had Emergency! and one of my first fannish loves, Johnny Gage. After rewatching the entire series I realized yep my favorites were the ones where Johnny is hurt (the best of which are now saved on my DVR) so this has been with me for decades.
I adore friends to lovers and found family, especially the latter. There is something so warming about people finding their own people, a family that understands them. In most of my longest lasting fandoms (and the ones I write the most for) found family is a key to it from the various Star Treks and the Buffyverse, to Fullmetal Alchemist and Prodigal Son.
And I absolutely love case fic. that might be my all time favorite of all tropes. And a lot of my fandoms are perfectly set up for that especially Prodigal Son, The X-Files and the Buffyverse
Canon divergence/What if is something I love writing. Reading it depends but it is such fun thing to explore.
I also love me some tooth meltingly sweet fluff. The world can be hard and it's fun to just settle into a warm cup of cocoa.
As for kinks, oh I have a few. Shibari (and other rope bondage techniques) is a favorite. While I do like BDSM, it tends to the lighter forms of it. I love polys and I do like violet ray wands/electrostimulation. That said I prefer my more erotic scenes to be balanced with story and plot (not that there's anything wrong with a pwp, I've certainly enjoyed and/or written my fair share)
