So I did get chapter one of my new YA novel done. If anyone wants to see the rough draft please ask (and it's only like 5 pages. I know amazing!)

As I was folding clothes and talking to mom on the phone I noticed a tick on my arm and managed to lose it in the bed (my laundry folding place) and I never did find it so I had to pull off all the bedding and shack it outside. I despise ticks and spiders.

Then got into a fight with mom. She's thrilled about where I'm going. I'm not. I like the college, I do. I like the idea of working but I hated the location. She's pissed that I have that attitude. I'm like YOU be a single woman in that place and you tell me how excited you are. Maybe she's right, it's the wrong attitude to have but at least I'm giving it a chance.

and are any of you out there fish people? I'm thinking of rescuing some of the goldfish from the pool and I know nothing about taking care of them in a tank.

and my original fic word count (Next week I think I'll back it down to 1000 words since I'm trying to pack)

Are they goldfish or tropical fish? Care varies wildly depending on species. Goldfish are a lot hardier than tropicals.

goldfish. They're living in an outdoor swimming pool and survived -40 degree temps for about 5 years now so they're hardy. I'd probably be hard pressed to kill them but I've never had fish before but some of them are cool so I'd like to take them with. Others are half a foot long so in the pool they stay

For goldfish you basically just need a tank, some gravel, and an aerator with a water filter. For every inch of goldfish length, you need about 30 square inches of surface area for your tank. Keep the tank out of direct sunlight, or you'll be scraping algae off the walls all the time. Change the water and clean the crud out of the gravel every two weeks. You can use bottled water, or if you use tap water, let it sit overnight so the chlorine can evaporate. Make sure you wash any tank decorations thoroughly with clean water (no soap) before using them.

Let the fish acclimatize to the temperature of their new tank by letting their baggies float in the new tank for half an hour or so before you open them and let them out. Putting a few drops of water conditioner into a new tank never hurts. Feed 'em standard goldfish flakes once or twice a day, and be sure not to overfeed--excess food cruds up the tank, and some fish don't know when to stop eating. Getting a few snails or a catfish to help clean the bottom of the tank can also help, though they can't sustitute for cleaning your tank and changing the filter regularly.

Fish are pretty, but they're labor intensive. At least with goldfish you don't have to worry about heating the tank.

that's why I never had fish. A lot of work for things I can't pet. I used to do the salt water tanks back in undergrad and said never again.

thanks for the help

I have had goldfish for a few years ago and never have the pump on and they are still fine. You can put them in any kind of tank really, and they are seriously cheap on eBay.

I actually have an old tank but it's the labor part that bothers me. I'm not sure I want to fuss with them much. ANd if I get a new cat...
