Not a bad 36 hours
May. 16th, 2018 07:08 pmLast night I got a contract for that SF novella I've been talking about. WHoo Hoo! Modified and Sacred will be in NineStar Press's Lost anthology. I'm excited. I mean many creative types are their own worst critics and that includes me. However, I do think this is good. It was decent as a short story but it definitely benefited from becoming a novella. I definitely have to thank
tinhutlady for all her help. This story is much stronger from all the hard work she put into it (and trust me she went all in and I appreciate it!) I'll be working with the editor who worked on my steampunk Christmas story last year and she was a great one to work with. I have no clue when it'll be out and if the stories will be getting their own art or if like, the Christmas anthology, will have the anthology art.
Yesterday I got to eat at the Greek restaurant I like (has gone downhill sadly) and the new Vietnamese restaurant one mile from my brother's place. SO damn good. Seriously, it was the best pho I've had since leaving Little Saigon in Orlando. I had rare steak and it was delicious, a tad pricey but delicious. However, it's badly named Pho Express made me think it was fast food (ditto my parents and my brother who had never been there) It has a dessert I want to try so I'll probably pop over and get that tomorrow.
Today Mom and I went to the casino. Within ten minutes she had won 300$ and I had won 200$ (not what I came home with mind you). That was fun. The themed dinner buffet sucked though. Usually the food is good but this was literally some of the worst tex mex I've had. I'd put it on par with a college cafeteria.
I need to not watch haunted shows in a house full of cats. I've noticed something the true haunted house shows have decided ghosts are boring. Every last one (and I've watched hours) are all demons now. Rolls eyes. If this many demons roamed the earth we would need Buffy and the Watchers. The ones where we have people actively investigating it's still ghosts.
There's a new piece of equipment I'm going to have to work into These Haunted Hills the Ovilus, that in theory has 2000 words in its memory and the ghosts can pick from them to 'talk' to you. OMG there are actual web pages dedicated to selling you ghost hunting tools, SO many new ones since my last ghost hunt. Now that I'm off, I'm going to have to look these over once I knock out these short stories. I'm still not writing like I should.
That said, I found two places in Saint Augustine that a) I want to visit and b) can we say Christmas shopping??? Even if this story doesn't get picked up I'll have that going for me.
How about some more photos?
The haul from the Ohioiana Book festival
The haul from the Steampunk Symposium
some 'steampunk doctor stuff', the necklace I was sort of lied to about but I like it anyhow, the map that unfurls to hold pens etc and two pieces of y ummy yummy chocolate!
These are the three mini bustles I won
