It's all over but the crying

cornerofmadnessI went to the office all afternoon and put my grades in. I love getting emails post final exams asking 'can I do extra credit now?' or 'what can I do to save my grade?' Excuse me you had 16 weeks. What part of FINAL exam do you not get? It's too damn late to be concerned now.
It's possible that an antivirus - Microsoft update combined to kill my laptop.More on that here So naturally dad has something to say about it because a) he's convinced I have a free antivirus package (I actually have Avast which is highly rated but is one of the ones causing problems with the update, I have it on the desk top too so now I'm not likely to turn it off until I get a chance to update my back ups) b) he knows everything (no, he only knows what he's trained himself to do) so he KNOWS windows defender is crap (it's not which you can read more about here and pissed me off when I said 'I'm not going to fight with you about this' 'of course not because you can't and your friends are idiots for telling you to use this.' (the friends in question are all IT professionals).
Sigh. Like I needed this on top of finding out today that the chair of the department was asked by the provost which she would keep if she could only keep one chemistry or biology. She told them they are intertwined and you can't have one without the other. So yeah I fully expect to find out on Tuesday that there is no longer a science program at my university.
Really glad I didn't buy a house at this point. Dad's trying to commiserate because he's been thru this before. And he did have a young family at the time. On the other hand, engineering jobs were around. Last I looked there were six A&P professor jobs out there on the job boards. That's Six. in the COUNTRY, not hte state. I'm getting too old to start all over again. I've done that once already. I no longer have it in me to continue this.

Date: 2019-05-04 03:53 pm (UTC)I have the same problem with my students, btw. Last week of senior classes, last day as of yesterday, no exam (final project is done) in my class. "Is this my final grade?"
Um, yes, yes that would be the culmination of your "efforts" for the fourth quarter/year.
