I went to the Madog Center to talk about the trip to Wales. I was fairly sure the money came from an endowment. It does BUT it's managed thru the university. Both the director (who was shocked they hadn't been cut) and I are doubtful they'll honor the 3000$ stipend. I told her I was willing to still write the paper using things I get from online (i.e. a metadata analysis) but she's looking into the money.

While I was there the Welsh exchange student pops in and goes 'would you like a cuppa tea and a chocolate digestive?' pauses and adds, blushing 'that was the most WELSH thing I could have said.' (I'm like bring on the tea and cookies, young man, I need them) Yes sweetie it was. Go be Welsh and give me tea.

And while there I run into the last research fellow to find out she has been cut and one thing led to another and my temper got away with me and I said shit I probably shouldn't have (and did so again a little later and have been sitting here for hours in a mild panic attack about it). Sigh.

After that I stopped by my office to be SURE I didn't get a termination letter and that went even more badly. In the front door was the dean of nursing and she and I were talking (while I helped looked for a stolen turtle from the front atrium pond just in case it got past the barrier and wandered off but where it could have gotten.... and whoever took it I hope you're happy, the two turtles have been together for 25 years and their owner was just killed and this was his parents' gift to the university he trained at and loved, so fuck you)

Anyhow, she's expecting to be terminated herself and the head of nursing is looking to leave. BUT what I didn't know is you CAN NOT have a nursing program without a director and who would replace her at this school (which thinks it can fill all the necessary for nursing classes with adjuncts and me, this is NOT Columbus or Cleveland where you can easily find qualified people) which means if she goes they have only a few months to replace her or NURSING goes. So I might not even be safe just teaching nursing.

I do have a cushion to look at jobs from. But I'm also wondering a) can I fast track a physician's assistant degree because I used to be a god damn doctor and get out in a year? b) can

evil_little_dog's friend get me a job at glaxo-smith-kline and fuck teaching (and because we all know I can't wait to live in Indiana)

And then it got WORSE. I found out one friend lost his job and he's destroyed because all his kids attend the school and one of my best friends was in the building. He graduated from Rio. He's worked here since 1984 and I honestly thought they'd KEEP him because he's only a master's and cheaper than the other chemists. Nope he informs me 'I'm losing my Wolowitz.' I've been too numb to cry. That'll come later.

But after hearing the nursing dean's projections I decided I can not go to Wales. I'm going to need ALL my money to go on job interviews and/or go back to school if I could somehow swing being fast tracked and even P.A. jobs are dubious now because they're pushing online consultations (don't do it guys seriously you WANT someone to see you in person. I'm good at diagnostics trust me on this). No matter if they promise me the money I see me doing nothing but trying to write research papers all summer and never leaving the house.
