As I lose my fannish mind
Jan. 21st, 2020 09:28 pmSo tired. My sugar went over 300 last night, lost some of my vision had to take MORE insulin (well over 100 units) and it still barely touched it. 4 AM sugar crashed so I'm out here eating peanut butter and watching Deep Space Nine. So tired this morning I put my boots on the wrong feet and couldn't even figure out for a moment why they hurt.

Honestly it's really AO3 because I'm not really that active other than writing/reading fanfic these days and not even that much until last year after years of slow down but I do have some places.
su_herald for all things in the Buffyverse, fanfic, fan art, videos, podcasts and news.
wipbigbang not really a resource in that sense but it's a favored place to give me inspiration for finishing my shit.
comment_fic (on LJ) just a place for multifandom prompts/fic.
I have been using twitter a lot for Prodigal Son which is just weird to me but there you have it.
eta- how could I forget this resource Forever Dreaming transcripts I find it invaluable if I need to know exactly what happened in an episode (some aren't as well transcribed as others but it's far better than nothing)
I am not often shocked by stories but the reveal of WHO Malcolm had stabbed (hinted at in his dream-memories) took me by complete surprise. I was far less surprised that Malcolm got stabbed in return. The reveal of what was under the house was also surprising.
The acting in this episode was off. the. charts.
Even though JT and Dani had relatively small roles they made the most of them. Protective JT was great to see and the emotion Aurora got into Dani's voice when they couldn't find Malcolm in the cabin was chilling.
Watching Ainsley makes me think I'm right about her being like her father. She had no idea how to comfort her mother, with that thousand yard stare when she was hugging her (echoed by Malcolm in the last moments). However the whole Mr. Boots thing was creepy AF
Colette Swanson made me hate her so much (so well done there) that said I hope she's gone soon.
Jessica, holy crap, talk about renewed respect for her. yes, she's never going to be mother of the year (hitting Ainsely with recriminations immediately but she is afraid out of her mind) but the way she was going to protect her children at the cost of her own life if it came to it is admirable. (That said I still don't really want Gil/Jess)
Malcolm and John, talk about creepy as fuck. Both actors hit it out of the park. Tom Payne does pain and fear so well! All I could think was Malcolm maybe quit instigating for five seconds. I loved seeing Gabrielle as a hallucination. The fear and pain in Malcolm's face with both the reveal about his father's plans (called it in my fanfic) and losing his family to a serial killer (also called it) was shiver inducing.
I liked the touch of taking Malcolm's shoes so he couldn't run off easily (since he did think he was back in the cabin in the woods). Personally I would have stripped him nude to make it that much harder (and the fact that I've obviously given this some thought is because I'm a writer NOT that I'm considering doing it).
I'm still not sold on the break your hand and get the cuff off thanks to fast swelling (but called that too). However, HOW did he get free with just one hand? Weren't the cuff linked to a D-ring in the floor. He couldn't have passed the cuff thru that. Did anyone see that better than me? (My vision was screwed). ETA - okay looked at the youtube of that scene so it looks like the D-ring is actually very old and big so maybe he could have slid the cuff through it
Saving the best for last, Gil and Martin. Holy Shit. Seriously if Emmys aren't handed out to this show, then what is the point? Martin's panic attack was as scary to watch as the real thing. How fast did he pick up on the fact that Gil is Malcolm's preferred Dad? How he weaponized it, chilling. While I don't buy most women have one scent they wear for 20 years, that worked here, watching Martin ripping Gil down because he thinks Malcolm is dead and there's nothing to lose, and how Gil didn't get derailed.
One thing that bothered me: the trunk at the end. Was it ever seen in the house before this? Did I miss it (possible) Was it part of Jessica's props for the media trying to find the girl in the box? For a second I thought it was a hallucination. I'm still not sure it wasn't and Malcolm merely bashed him over the head. Regardless it was one hell of an episode
Have some PRodigal links like teaser photos for next week right here.
Or Michael Sheen worrying a bit about his character here. and here. And I get that. Just look at the idiocy over that recent Ted Bundy biopic with the 'hot serial killer' schtick and the show itself even commented on it which was kinda gross

Date: 2020-01-22 06:34 pm (UTC)So the reveal that Martin was going to kill Malcolm shook me down hard.
I am definitely in the "Ainsley is more like her father" camp. I've said that before in comments somewhere. And, yeah, the actress who played Jessica hit it out of the park both with her worry and acting out because of it, and then her care when Watkins was after them and Ainsley was hit in the head.
And yeah, Martin and Gil was stellar TV. Gil was so on point and it was so obvious that he knows Martin's game and isn't going to be personally baited by him.
Can't wait for next week!

Date: 2020-01-22 07:24 pm (UTC)But I definitely felt (I forget which story(ies) that I have it in) that they were going to murder Malcolm. He knew too much, he could only be drugged for so long so I figured it had to be part of the conversation somewhere. What malcolm DOES with this will be interesting (I can already see how Martin will play it off)
Ainsley is daddy's girl even if she doesn't remember him much, she's inherited his mental make up.
Jessica wowed me.
This can't be the end between Gil and Martin but definitely Gil isn't going to fall for Martin's crap. I wonder though if he's honest with Malcolm how hard his 'death' hit Martin.
definitely cannot wait (And Edrisa will be back then. woot!)
