I'll try to put these up reasonably early in the day and come back with my totals at the end because I'm such a night owl that if I don't I'll lose track of the time and be posting it up at midnight. Welcome everyone. I've lifted the intro materials directly from [personal profile] zwei_hexen.

What is the Write Every Day challenge?
Write Every Day is just what its name says: We challenge each other to write every, single day. Our goal is to encourage one another and provide the accountability and/or motivation that some of us find very useful in keeping the words flowing.

Who can participate?
Everyone is welcome! We’re an open-minded, nonjudgmental group of people who enjoy writing.

What do I have to do?
We’ll post each day with a little bit about our writing and a running tally of participants. All you need to do is drop by the comments to let us know how you’re doing. Please know that you are never obligated to check in. Also, if you'd like to comment on someone else's comment but aren't checking in for yourself, that's perfectly fine too. We're really easygoing 'round here, and conversation is absolutely encouraged.

Is there a word limit or quota?
Nope. Write as little as an “alibi” sentence (just what it sounds like—a sentence you write to say you’ve written, an alibi for the day, as it were) or as much as you’d like. All word counts are welcome!

Is there any restriction on the kind of writing I can do?
Absolutely not! Fanfiction, original fiction, screenplays, blog posts, meta, academic writing, morning pages, editing, letter-writing, nonsense poems: If you can write it, it counts!

Do I have to participate all the time?
No way! You can come and go at your pleasure.

New to WED? Got any questions? Feel free to PM me at [personal profile] cornerofmadness

I also like [personal profile] zwei_hexen's twice a month rec post idea so I'll try one around mid month and one toward the end. And hey I got Feb in a leap year so that's cool. Also to all the new WED folk who subscribed to me, almost every sunday I do a writing post with lots of links if that's helpful to you.

ETA - It was a decent day for me I got 895 words on Light Through Cemetery Glass and posted it + 1734 words on Come Undone. Both are Prodigal Son

Day One:

Hi! *waves* Thanks so much for hosting this month! <3

Q. I'm in New Zealand, so a day ahead of most people -- do you mind if I check in for my-todays? I know it can make it a bit hard to keep track.

My goal for February is to finish a completed draft of a Guardian WIP I started at the end of 2018.

Awesome -- thanks so much! <3

1st: Alibi levels of editing. (I was mostly offline.)

I'll come back later to check in for today. :-)

ETA: 2nd: Fiddled with outline and added a few plot points to the first section. Haven't really settled into it yet. Hopefully tomorrow.

Thank you for hosting this month! :o)
I have about 600 words on the exchange story so far, but hope to get a bit more done before bed.
Very good writing advice, that! I should perhaps starting doing my "writing quotes" again, and do one about this.

About the rec posts: yay for doing this as well! :o)
I was thinkig, for our next time to host it, to do them more towards the beginning of the month, and have the link to them included in the daily tally post, since if done at the end less people might check them out as they've wandered already off to the next hoster. I thought every time somebody made a new comment on these, I'd mention it in the next tally post so everybody would be aware.

I like the quote! Thank you for hosting us this month! Yay! :-)

I had a busy day of errand-running and adventuring (well, for a given value of adventure), but I wrote before we left the house, adding 807 to the fuck-or-die story I'd really rather not be writing. *sighs*

Just for context: I started a new job in December, spent the next month struggling to find a way to still fit writing in my day, and only in the last two weeks hit on something that seems to be working for me -- writing longhand during my morning bus commute, and then sometimes (often) writing more longhand at lunch. On good days, I can do four longhand pages in a day this way, but I've had no real sense of how much that is -- there's been no time during the week to transcribe. Last weekend I transcribed a page or two, but most of what I had written longhand belongs to a later point in the story, so I let it sit in my notebook until I was ready for it.

Anyway, my writing plan for today was to transcribe what I have -- about 20 longhand pages, however much that is -- then write on the computer until I had a decent word count for the day.

THAT WAS THE PLAN.

It is now many, many hours later, I've transcribed 5K, and I'm throwing in the towel for the day. I have maybe another 1K to transcribe? But I've been doing some revision as I transcribe (per the longhand notes I made as I went about what needs to change), and my brain is fried. BECAUSE 5K.

So! Apparently 20 longhand pages is a lot! Apparently I have been making significant progress as I scrawl away on the bus! Maybe this method is productive enough that I'll still be able to finish stories in a timely way maybe! Because it looks like I wrote a significant amount these last two weeks and I had NO IDEA.

Hello fellow night-owl, thanks for hosting this month!

218 words today. One day I will manage to turn weekends into times of several bouts of writing in a day the way I want but that was not this day.

500 on the first day. Not bad.

I have two original pieces I'm working on - I tend to trade back and forth whenever I get blocked on one.

Thank you for hosting this month!

I did ~100 words of worldbuilding on one of my WorldAnvil worlds. I don't know the exact number; just guesstimating. Also posted an update on mom's health at the book of face, which sort of counts, and replied to comments here on DW.

Tomorrow mom and I are hosting Shut Up and Write in her bookshop, so it promises to be a productive day!

Hello! *waves* Thank you for hosting this month!

Day 1 - 1200 words, a 1k challenge fic and two drabbles. I'm happy with that!

This month I'm hoping for 20k if I can manage it. Got to keep on track for my GYWO pledge.

Howdy hi! Thanks for hosting this month.

After a month of writing alibi sentences and failing to check in at WED at all, I'm trying something different. Every day I'm going to pick a WIP and work on it, whether it's simple line edits or overhauling the whole thing. Eventually I will have to write some new stuff, since I signed up for Get Your Words Out, but this will have to do until things calm down more in my life.

So! For day 1 I actually edited two WIPs into reasonably finished stories, so am feeling good. 8-)

Thank you!

Yes, the habit pledge must be very useful when you're doing a lot of editing. Most of my writing is for weekly or monthly challenges so word count suits me better. I like watching the numbers mount up. Makes me feel I'm achieving something positive.

There is, but it can be daunting at the beginning when you know your goal and you only have a couple of thousand words written but there are so many more to go...

Good luck to you too!

Thank you! The event was kind of a bust; no one showed up to actually write (they did show up for social time), but I still got some words done, and mom's having a good day, so that's good.
