how it all shook out
Sep. 10th, 2005 04:19 pmBasically the local Sears guy informs me that you don't get side knock out dryers until you're in the 500$ range. Now Nationals told me that any one could be made to be side or back vented. He tells me to go buy a periscope vent and that'll solve my problems in that it'll come up over the back and out the side and only take up 1 inch compared to 4 inches or more. They'll redeliver on tuesday. Then mom asks a question...it IS an electric dryer not gas right? I'm like...hell I thought so but at this point I'm taking nothing for granted. I've decided to call the national Sears center again because no less than three people knowledgable about this stuff said they've never heard of a dryer that couldn't be side vented and I want to be sure he's not trying to sell me a more expensive dryer. And if the periscope doesn't work (and I should have to buy this? Any reason why my dryer don't comes with a cord and a vent?) I'm telling them to haul BOTH appliances away. I want them gone and my money back.
And my landlord came over today to fix my fan. It actually wasn't broken. It had just been disconnected at the wall switch. He and the manager's husband suspected that might be the case and said we want to check the thermostat since I can't turn off the ac/heat pump. The last person in here was in their words 'very nasty' and didn't like being evicted (his parents are the ones across the way always in my pumpkin patch) and thought he might have sabatoged things. Sure enough he had rewired everything in there. Sob.
The stinky holding tank (turns out, like I thought might be the case, we have an organic waste recycler on the premises) will be flushed with cholorine and hopefully no one has done something stupid and flushed something they shouldn't have.
I got to show them where the previous tenant punched a hole in the aluminum siding and they heard how bad the floor creaks and are going to shim it for me.
sadly it got so late I didn't make the coal festival. Today was the last day and at 4pm I figured all the vendors would have nothing left anyhow and I go for the crafts in the first place.
