When it rains
Sep. 24th, 2005 01:26 pmIt pours. Yesterday started out pretty good. FINALLY got some writing done. Only one chapter away from finishing the start of a new series/charity fiction. Sort of lazed around. then I went to the much toted Jackson Apple Festival. What a disappointment. Nothing but row after row of carnival food stands and games run by some of the scariest and verbally nasty carnies I've ever seen. No crafts, no APPLES. There was only lonely local apple stand. the only things that weren't scary carnival shacks selling 5$ funnel cakes was one double row of local businesses and churches which did nothing for me. it was boring. So much so that I knew I'd never hang around until Emerson Drive played at 8 pm. Besides it was raining and all the local shops were closed. There wasn't even a coffee house to go and write in for a few hours.
So I got some of my much beloved fresh lemonade, knowing it was forbidden because of the sugar but what's a little sugar once in a while. Well, the guy handed it to me and his nails were all dark yellow. I almost didn't drink it as a result but I paid too much for it. Besides his fingers really weren't in the drink. Well, it had way more sugar than anticipated and I had a severe reaction and nearly collapsed about an hour later after I had had dinner on top of it. I recovered okay but that coupled with a big dinner (forgetting that I can't eat like that any more. I have to eat in small bits thanks to my messed up stomach) I felt too sick to head back to hear Emerson Drive so I went home.
As I pulled in I felt it in the air, this rush of electricity. Boom. (told you I attract lightning)Two of the younger college residents ran out and said the power surge just took out the apartment complex and caught their place on fire. It was put out immediately by them and sure enough no power. So I sat outside and just read until dark. It was kinda pleasant.
When the power came on I went around the apartment testing it out. Everything was fine EXCEPT the computer room. It was hit so hard the breaker blew. The surge protector fried....and so did my computer. Oh the printer, monitor and speakers are just fine but the computer itself is a crispy critter. thank god I had backed up last week all the stories.
I have lost however all the new charity stuff (
evil_little_dog please save the new stuff I just sent you, everything else will be on my back up disc) And sadly www.foreverfandom.net was down the last I looked so that's out too. I didn't lose much except images and videos (
evil_little_dog i sent you the videos on those discs a few months back. Hope you still have them) Luckily I hand write then type and I was going to recycle all the paper yesterday and forgot so I'll still have that to replace what didn't get backed up this week. So, all the charity stuff (Yes sadly this means you
southernbangel and
a2zmom) will have to be redone along with my thing for Project Paranormal (sorry
scribesds)
I talked to one of my techie friends and since it'll be about 10% of the cost of a new computer just to have someone look at it let alone work on it I think I'll just buy a new tower and hope MPA can get the files off poor deceased Gunn for me. The computer was having massive troubles before the lightning strike so I don't think it worth the trouble of trying to see if it's fixable. Other techie friends out there, your input is much desired.
So if I'm slow to respond, it's because I have to do it from work. I'm here on a saturday just so people don't wonder why I disappeared from the net without warning for 4 days. On the upside I got to watch tv again. And I started to clean up some of the boxes I never unpacked. One had jewelry in it I haven't seen since 1995. I had forgotten how beautiful some of these stone pieces truely were. A lot need restrung. My connamara marble claddagh ring was in there...i'm so happy it wasn't lost like I thought it had been. I might not be marrying the man who gave it to me but the ring is lovely.
