To be honest they should have called it Greek FOOD festival because that's all it was. Someone with a cd player playing Greek music and three tavernas. It was at the Weirton Greek Orthodox church and it was nice for what it was (to me festival denotes games, vendors etc this was just food in the parking lot). I like supporting local things so we went to collect dinner and have a little lunch.

Mom and I had spanokopita for lunch and shared an order of Loukoumades, hot donut balls smothered in honey and cinnamon (and nuts but I said no to those. These remind me of zeppoli). We took home dolmades loaded for bear and gyros loaded with enough meat for two of them and sampled the other desserts including baklava (naturally and honestly the only one worth the price because otherwise it was 2 small cookies at 2$ each but again it's for the community) Ahladakia and the halva were sold out. Boo. We also got Finikia (yum) and Kourambiethes (haven't tried them yet, the latter two are usually Christmas cookies but whatever, Christmas in July)

I wanted to put pictures of the beautiful shasta daisies my parents have out back but the last three days have been brutally hot for PA and they looked sick and sad. So, have the ones under the pine trees (mixed in with clover and Queen Anne's Lace, not to mention a jillion baby Ash trees)

I wanted to do more than pictures for the challenge BUT this month is hard. I'm expecting edits on some of my pro stuff while trying to meet deadlines for other pro stuff (got a rejection today) so I don't have a lot of fanfic time plus I have two fandom challenges to meet: [community profile] wipbigbang & [community profile] fandomgiftbasket

Speaking of the latter, if you're inclined to write for me you can find my sign up here or page thru the tags and gift something in your fandoms if you're so moved.

So instead of me giving you something from me let me do my usual friday fandom rec roundup.

Aaah Greek food is SO good. I eat vegan now so I don’t have it often but I love some Moussaka and Dolmares. Yumyum.

The daisies are cute.

I agree that festival to me means more than food vendors, but food is still nice.

All that mention of Greek food is making me hungry! I really love Greek food, but there's limited chances to have any around here, there's basically just a couple of gyro places.

I'm always down for whatever-community food festivals, and the Greek one you describe sounds like a real feast indeed. :D

Love the pictures you took, especially that the flowers are mixed with cloves and baby trees!

OMG yes Greek food is so good! Though, I may be biased here since I grew up with similar cuisine. ;p

Those daisies are nice, shame about your parents' daisies, summer really has been brutal to plant life lately.

Just reading this entry has made me so hungry. I love Greek food. Those daisies are so pretty!

I'm glad that you and your mom had a good time at the festival even if it wasn't what you expected.
