We sprang forward, the weather sprang back to January

I wanted to see the Shakespearean folios at the Frick art museum and today was the last day. It SNOWED. Like a lot. Like a white out while we're driving.

Mom: maybe we should head back

Me: We're seeing the folios or die trying.

It was one of the easiest Pittsburgh Museums to get to but I've never been there. I'll go back in the summer and see Henry Clayton Frick's house museum. Let's be honest here, Frick was a prick. He was a coal baron in cahoots with Carnegie (another right bastard) but he also amassed a huge art collection. Once we got there two of the wings were closed (they close on Mondays) so they could open with new shows on Tuesday.

But I got to see my folios. They had the first through the fourth so from 1663 - 1650 give or take. If we're honest there isn't much to see. I got to look over the books and that was pretty damn cool. They had a virtual reality head set so you could see the theater. They had the windows blacked out with scenes from Stratford and it was cool.

They also had a neat collection of renn. iconography (Not my favorite but I liked seeing it) and one of Chinese ceramics (mostly 1600-1800). There were some flemish tapestries around.

There is also a separate car and carriage museum. I do enjoy a pretty car.

My GPS , Offenwrong, did not go home correctly and we took a jaunt through Squirrel Hill where I haven't been in nearly 35 years (it's where that huge synagoue shooting was a few years back) It's now a mix of the large Jewish community that's been there for many decades and Asian. SO. Many. Asian restaurants. Couldn't find anywhere to park. Pouts.

Met my cousin and her daughter at Joann Fabrics to look for illusion veiling for her wedding veil. Mom will be making it. I now want most of the fabric and to make myself two dozen shirts.

I've been to a museum a bit like that in my area (all the vintage cars are reminding me of it). Oh! It's, uh, the Nethercutt Collection! There was certainly nothing as cool and antiquated as those Shakespeare folios there. They did have some really neat music-boxes there though.

My daughter did tons of research on Frick and Carnegie (her favorite time period). She hated Frick but actually likes Carnegie. We visited the Johnstown Flood National Memorial and all the old buildings in the area. She said it was hugely Frick's fault. among many others. So sad.

Oooh absolutely want to visit this! I've been to the Frick in NY, but it's been a loooong time (freshman year of college long time ago). Everything is sooo pretty.

I have a friend who lived in or near Squirrel Hill when the shooting occured.

Sadly the folios went back to their library today but the Frick itself is cool

Carnegie has such a battered rep here. He did eventually do good with his money but he was simply awful to the people and Frick was worse (most of teh robber barons were) Not to say you couldn't find things to like about him. Like I said he did eventually do stuff with his money that many of his fellows didn't.

Oh, me too! I was just at the Bowers Museum yesterday with my dad seeing the Asian Comics: Evolution of an Art Form show. It was quite excellent (and it'll be running 'til September so if you can make your way out here...!).

cool. One of the museums in NM last year had a lot of manga panels in it for its yokai in art display

How cool! That's interesting, since there was a whole section focused on yokai (and their equivalents in other Asian countries) included in this show.
