It's been a rough week all around for everyone. I had some ideas as to what I wanted to write for this but I keep circling back to why are there so many problematic authors in SF/F horror? Some I didn't learn about being awful people until after they were gone and my love of their work was something in the distance past. Liked Eddings or Lovecraft. I was never that big of a fan of Marion Zimmer Bradley or Orson Scott Card so giving up their work was easy enough.

Then came JK Rowling with her transphobia and actively working to hurt the trans community. Sigh. I was, however, never active in the HP fandom. I did a few things and I enjoyed the books and movies. My personal decisions for her work were, these are now comfort movies and I AM watching them but not buying anything new from her (and if you're in the fandom, that's fine by me too).

But the latest news hurts. Neil Gaiman's rape accusations hurt a lot not just because I love his work, I liked HIM. He was so supportive and kind to his fans and budding talent and shutting down haters etc. Then this comes out after all these years. The only defense I've seen him offer is yes we had sex but it was consensual. And then we have these ugly details the women are sharing on podcasts. It does not look good for him. No matter how this all shakes out, the damage is done.

I already know I'm not getting rid of my Gaiman comics. I'm just not. They've been part of my heart for 30 years. Right now I'm waiting on an expensive comic version of Good Omens that was delayed a year after the artist developed breast cancer and needed time off for treatment. Is that even going to come out now? Will the money be returned? Good questions. No answers yet. Some of my current favorite shows Sandman and Dead Boy Detectives will be affected. Sandman 2 will no doubt be released (maybe, I could be wrong) since it's filmed already. That's a lot of money to be lost. DBD was on the will it be renewed bubble so that doesn't look good. Ditto Good Omens 3 (poor David Tennant now hooked to two problematic genre authors)

At home, FETV shows old shows and they're rerunning The Cosby Show and mom said, why are they running something by a rapist? Another good question. We'll be asking that about the above mentioned shows too. I'm so tired of people being awful.

I try to be good but so often it seems like being the good/change you want to see in the world is a pointless effort. Sigh. Regardless of what happens I removed my Gaiman quote icon here and as my avatar on AO3. Right now it's a tree. I need/want for it to be fandom free. Maybe I can make a writing quote from Atwood or Angelou or something. Jesus.

As for me, I AM writing. I looked at a
