I got most of my packing done for my trip to Gettysburg tomorrow for the Steampunk con. Would have gotten it all done except a cousin came to fill us in on more family drama.

Speaking of drama OMFG, student loans. Because the right is so invested in human misery, they have put in an injunction on income-based repayment so I can't just hit a button and say go get my IRS info and do your thing. No, it's back 15 years and I had to fill in TWO pdfs, one for either loan company and send it in. I am infuriated by this because it used to take months. I don't have months. Fantastic.

I'm also a little surprised to learn it wasn't just MY girl scout troop who had to sing taps. It's super weird to me that this is their thing.

I'm putting these here so I can find them. There's a vampire open call and I just found out the Rollingstones played a local park before they hit it big. I loved that park as a kid (it failed in the late 70s early 80s and burned down) west view park

What I Just Finished Reading:

The Van Meter Visitor - non fiction about a mothman like monster in Iowa in 1903, it's well written and it's given me an idea for a story (the creature theoretically let out a chemical that muddled the senses)

What I am Currently Reading:

The Seeker - a black powder fantasy arc from Netgalley

Bloodmarked by Tracy Deon, very good so far (and handles racism and bias better than most of the urban fantasy books I've been reading)

Native Wisdom - Ed McGaan, I'm remembering why I put this on a shelf 30 years ago...

What I Plan to Read Next: I'm almost through all the books I brought. I'm down to the two anthologies I'm in

I don't remember if we sang taps at brownie camp (I was a wee thing!), but I know my wife sang taps at her girl scout camp.

We did sing it at band/music camp, though. And of course we were musicians, so we did it up lovely, everyone singing it as they went back to their various cabins, it drifting up out of the woods all around you from distant and invisible singers... It wasn't a dirge to us, it was just lovely.

I recently (read: earlier this year) read Seicho Matsumoto's "Tokyo Express" and "Point Zero," but I already knew I liked his books already, so...

Oh! And another author I like is Colin Cotterill! He wrote a whole series of books about his older coroner character, Dr. Siri. They're a bit on the paranormal side and they're mysteries, ultimately, so I think they might be to your tastes! I believe "The Coroner's Lunch" is the first one, so you should start there!

Mine are now on forbearance... again. I'm never going to qualify for loan forgiveness because every time they put it on forbearance, the clock starts over.

Oh, well, it is what it is.
