And the hits keep coming
Sep. 4th, 2024 11:03 pmIn addition to more family drama I don't want to get into, yet another school shooting to feel helpless about, the mafia horror story I was shortlisted for didn't make it. (Obviously not equally weighted things here)
They want it (potentially) if they do another companion piece to this. That's nice. I see another villain centric anthology that I'm going to chuck it at. However, it does hurt when you go all out research wise for something and it fails at the last second. That's the writing game (and if I'm honest I'd love to turn this into a novella/novel but oh the research it would require.)
I'm in serious pain today and saddened at talking with my PTA in physical therapy today (as he was yet another student at my school and worked for them and it was sad having some of my worse suspicions about school practices in the past confirmed). Sigh. All I need is for the job to hold out another decade.
But I do have good things in this post because surely you're tried of my whining. I have the photos and August's books (how is it September?)
What I Just Finished Reading:
Don't Let the Forest in - Another YA horror, I enjoyed it but I'm not sure about the ending, had some of my least favorite tropes
What I am Currently Reading:
Execution Dock - Anne Perry
Native Wisdom - Ed McGaan, I'm remembering why I put this on a shelf 30 years ago...
The Heir of Bluescale - this is self published and boy this is why self pubbing had such a bad name for so long. I'm not sure I can make it through.
The Boston Metaphysical Society graphic novel I just got from Kickstarter
What I Plan to Read Next: the stuff I just got from the library
August's Reads. You know the drill, read my reviews and if you wanna talk books, let's do it
Orbital contemporary
The Van Meter Visitor: A True and Mysterious Encounter with the Unknown Cryptid
Seeker fantasy
Six of Sorrow YA horror
Kemono Jihen manga
Bloodmarked. Urban fantasy
Third Shift Society, Vol. One Urban fantasy GN
Victoria's Electric Coffin 01 manga
Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Vol. 1 manga
Impossible Creatures middle grade fantasy
Daemons of the Shadow Realm 03 manga

Horseshoe Mound
I just liked this bridge. We have one like it in Steubenville too
The musicians
people watching from the river
The mutant fish
balancing act
more balancing
how?
Another mutant
human pyramid
if she messed up, she'd be dead on the cement
Sadly I didn't get a good pic of him swinging by his man bun (that's what I hate about digital camera with no view finders, bright light blacks out the screen and you only hope it's good...kinda like old time film I guess)
The path to the site
A cool tree
three of the mounds
ANother mound but my leg was acting up too much to hike out there to see what was on it
Close up of another mound
And last but not least Happy birthday
