She Talks to Angels

Pairing - B/A

Buffy rested her hands on Angel’s large ones. There was something inherently selfish about staying here safe in his arms but she didn’t care. Maybe Dawn needed her now more than ever but the young girl had Willow, Xander and the other. They could comfort her sister. Buffy was tired of always having to be strong, never allowed to acknowledge her pain. Now was her time to break. Dawn would forgive her.

Buffy shifted, pressing her face against Angel’s chest, trying hard not to look at the freshly turned earth over her mother’s grave. "I know you have to go soon.”

Angel cocked his head to look at the subtly lightening sky. “I have time. I wish there were more I could do for you.” Angel tightened his grip around her waist.

“This is enough.” Buffy melted against him then looked faded stars in the sky. “What do you think Mom’s doing now?”

“Your mom had every reason in the world to hate me. I never held that against her. She was doing a very tough job the best she could. I’ve never been religious either but there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s talking with angels now,” he replied, tucking his cheek close to hers.

“Thank you,” Buffy whispered and surrendered again to her pain.

“If I apologized, she’d still be here,” Spike sobbed against his whiskey bottle.

The Analio demon he was pouring his heart out to just rolled her eyes, wondering what about her said, ‘tell me your problems. I give a damn.’

Spike wiped his nose on his sleeve. “A Chaos demon! She left me for a bloody Chaos demon. Have you ever seen one of those? All slime and antlers? How could she dump me for that?”

“I’ve known you five minutes and I’d trade you for a Chaos demon,” the Analio demon muttered.

“I ask you, am I not a handsome bloke?” Spike nearly teetered off the bar stool and ended up face planted in the Analio’s cleavage.

She shoved him back. “You’re annoying.”

Spike’s head wagged as he slugged back more whiskey. “Apologizing wouldn’t help. It’s all in Dru’s pretty little head. She thinks I’ve gone soft. Me!” Spike beat his chest. “William the damn Bloody, soft! Thinks my head’s all full of the Slayer. The bats have finally flown out of Dru’s belfry, got me confused with the bloody poof. He’s the Slayer-whipped one. How can Dru think I’m in love with the Slayer? The only thing I want to do with the bint is to play cats cradle with her guts, maybe use her pretty Slayer skin to make me a nice pair of romper stompers.” Spike grinned at the thought.

“That the first thing you’ve said that’s made any sense.” The Analio licked her fangs, imagining a whole array of Slayer skin clothing.

Spike reached for more whiskey then melted into the bar in a boozy unconscious puddle. Seeing her chance, the Analio fled in relief.

Oh, poor Spike. I actually like the second one better than the B/A one, which is saying something because -- well, I've been known to 'ship. But your Spike is very on and very engaging, and the way you've written it, you can just see him rolling around the bar in his melancholy, and it's priceless. I love, "I've known you five minutes and I’d trade you for a Chaos demon." Hee! I liked the B/A one, too, but the Spike one's just . . . I don't know, more charismatic.

On a beta note, I caught a few tiny errors: In the first one, when Buffy tells Angel, "I know you have to go soon," there's no beginning quotation marks, just closing. For the Spike one: Spike says Dru left him for a "blood" Chaos demon; I'm pretty sure you mean "bloody," although maybe he's slurring his speech because he's drunk or you mean something I'm not grasping. Also, I believe "Bloody" as in "William the Bloody" should be capitalized, but that's . . . far from important. Just trying to help; if I'm being annoying, let me know.

I really enjoyed these. I even liked the Spike one. I really don't like him, but you captured the one I could stand.

As for the Buffy and Angel drabble, I can only say bravo. I really, really want to kick those two for being as idiotic about their relationship as they have. Well, more Buffy than Angel. I can only imagine the horrible things she thought after Angel took over W&H. *kicks Ridiculous!Buffy*

If he died (thanks, Joss!), then she's probably dancing on his grave. And, as he's dead, he can't very well defend himself. Boo. Although, I now have an idea. Could I possibly wheedle you into writing a drabble where Buffy reacts in a favorable light to Angel's death? Maybe Connor comes to tell her about it and things go from there?

I really liked it, you captured the way Spike must have been feeling and reacting excellently. I also liked the way you used the Analio demon's "I don't care" attitude as a counterpoint(is that the right word?) for his behaviour.

Loved the B/A one, Angel was the only who didn't demand anything from Buffy which she really needed.
