Brought Roy home. He's still pretty damn sick. But he refuses to stay inside. I figured he'd want in and out. I'm surprised he doesn't want in. If I can't lure him in and him wanting to stay there, I just flushed a whole lot of money. Sigh.

And even though I picked him up 4 days early they only knocked a few bucks off the price. grrr.

Another stray thought, what if he doesn't want to use the litter. He DOES scratch in the rocks/flower bedding/dirt so he should want to use the litter but I can't be sure of that. Hmmm starting to see many flaws in my master plan here.

Cats are odd creatures.

Hmm.. they do make a litter that is guaranteed that they'll use it. I don't remember what it's called, but my neighbors used it with their kitty they adopted that I couldn't take in. As long as you show him where it is, most likely he'll know what it's for. Also, once his testosterone level drops, he's not as likely to feel the need to roam as actively. Right now, even ballless, he still has an almost normal amount in his system, so he still thinks he's supposed to go out and be a Tom. Does ballless actually have three ells in a row in it? O_o

You sound like a good mommy. Having a sick pet can be hard on you and your wallet (and man, the vet still kept pretty much the same price? grr). I hope the both of you feel better soon.

I say try reverse psychology.

Forbid him to come inside. Post all the time about how much you don't want him inside, and think as much as possible how much you don't want him inside. If he tries to come in, put him out again. You won't be able to stop him from coming in. ;)

OoOOps.

Maybe he just wants to verify that he's actually HOME?

Poor little guy's just dazed from being sick. He'll figure out soon enough that he officially owns you and then you won't be able to get him off your bed. I guess I should be saying his bed now huh?

As long as he's sticking around you'll be able to lure him back in eventually. Some outdoor cats never lose the desire to get out there entirely, even when neutered, but when ours escape and we can't catch them, they don't go as far or stay out nearly as long as unneutered males will.

hmm I call it denutted so... he's also been an outdoor cat all his life.

However he was in today and was MOST UPSET that i refused to allow him to sit between my legs on the couch and beg while I ate. Or that I refused him the right to sit on the chair rather than the ottoman I put the old sheet on for him or the bed I bought him

you're probably right. Part of the issue is he thinks he can be on the furniture. Even if he didn't stink and wasn't hacking, he wouldn't be allowed up so he's sulking because no matter how much he yellsnothing but meow mix appears in his bowl

Date: 2008-02-05 02:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
no no, no animals on the furniture. he has his bed. He will use it

that's what I'm figuring is the case. he was in some but it's beautiful out there tonight. Its like April weather. He's been in a cage in a vet's office for 4 days. He probably wants to roam

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
right more he's more concerned that something other than meow mix appears in his bowl. good luck with that one

Well, you know, he just has to learn the rules. When he begs give him a pat on the nose with one finger to correct him and then put him back where he's allowed to be. He'll learn. Same with the ottoman or chair... though the ottoman may not be as comfy... Star would not use her bed at all until I put it up onto a little table that I'd trash picked (yes ... *shame* ... I trash pick hahaha but it was perfectly good) bought with the intention of making it into a table for me. I put her bed on it from where it was on the floor and all of a sudden she loves the bed. Before she couldn't ignore it enough!

I know that Saruman when we first brought him in, didn't want to stay in... but after a while, he was more and more content with it. I really wish I had left him in and stopped letting him out at all. I've regretted that ever since he died... because he wouldn't have been poisoned.

Put catnip on the catbed. Or anyplace else you *want* him to go.

Heh, my kitty loves shitty food like meow mix, but I try to feed him the organic stuff without scary byproducts. But it's funny to see him cleaning his bowl when I feed him Poison Kitty Chow on those days when I run out of the good stuff.

mine always have. no one on the counters. No one on the furniture except the one I designate for them.

I find cats more trainable than most people expect. Iktomi needed the water pistol more than most...like the time he pulled the cornish hen out of the trash and ate it on my pillow

yeah. I've actually been very good with training my cats. Right now I just want him to acclimate to being in and me NOT rushing him out.

My parents feel the same. They let my cat Iktomi go in and out and he got hit by a car

Oh, he'll learn. Good plan keeping him off the furniture. I've never bothered because I had hard wood floors for so long I wanted the cats to be comfortable. But I'm getting two *very expensive* new chairs soon, and those pussies will NOT be yacking up on them.

How much do water pistols cost?

Date: 2008-02-05 04:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
depends on size and how good they are. I haven't priced them in about a decade though. Ineeded a supersoaker for Iktomi, stubborn brat

We used to use spray-pump bottles, like the kind you can buy for household products, on our cat when I was a teenager. Some of those have a setting that just shoots across the room.

He really needs to be in the house, at least until he's well enough. It's a shame they couldn't keep him longer... Do you have a small room/closet you could set him up in temporarily?

I'm not really that concerned about him being out. it's warm. he's on any number of meds and no I don't nor would he be willing to stay closed up. I won't have him scratching up doors that aren't mine
