Okay I'm not really a fan of the story. Yes, it's quite sweet and all but not really my thing. That said one of my coworkers was in it as Marilla, one of her largest roles to date. We all said we'd go. We went out for dinner first (and let me say this if I did leave here I would miss my coworkers. Where else do you get coworkers who actually WANT to hang out after work because they enjoy each other's company?)
The play was ....awful. I had suspected it would be from what L. said about the dress rehersals. But this was just a trial and not all of it was because of the play which seemed to be combining both Anne and Avonleigh. The first act was well long. The seats in this old theatre (the same one I do the haunted theatre in) are so uncomfortable that I'm nearly in tears from the pain in my neck and back b y the end.
But the REAL trial, the people right behind us. The kids get up to get concessions like a dozen times and TALK thru so damn much of the first act. I turned around (as did others in my row) to glare several times. FInally the mother tells them to shut up. Less than two minutes later the first act ends. When did we stop actually correcting our children and start letting them do whatever the hell they want? My whole row missed half the first act.
WORSE someone brought two kids under the age of 3 AND an infant. Okay we expected kids. It's a children's play. Who the fuck brings a baby to a play? THen lets it cry the whole time. If it was that bad for US imagine how it was for the actors. I'm sure half the missed lines (and there were many) were because of that. And no one made that crew leave.
The second act was even longer since it hinged on the kids more than Matt and Marilla and well let's just say they weren't up to the task. They needed at least anotehr week of rehersal.
Anne however did a really good job for a girl her age. She was impressive
so i'm here drinking tequila lime and salt until it doesn't hurt any more.
