Today driving back from CHillicothe the clouds looked two dimensional as if they had been painted on a sky blue canvas. Tonight driving back from Easter vigil, the full moon was orange and low and looked photoshopped and squished. So very strange.

So yes, I did go to CHillicothe. Didn't really do much but did learn that Petland has less cat stuff than my local Krogers...how disappointing and the toy i bought there broke the firs time Kyo hit it. Sigh. I DID splurge and hit lobsterfest. Let's just say grilled lobster is very delicious. The honeybaked people had a presence in that Krogers too

I decided to go to Easter vigil partly because I've liked the ritual in the past and mostly because the mass was 'sunrise' and I didn't feel like trying yet another protestant church tomorrow.

You just have to think the Catholics really did steal every pagan ritual they could to make it palatable to the masses way back when. We start with our little candles standing outside the church while a sacrificial sacred fire is started. The priest then says a prayer and carves symbols into the candle then lights it from the sacred fire (how many books of shadow have i seen this in?) The incense censor is lit from the sacred fire We walk around the church a couple of times then when inside, light our candles from the Easter candle which is then put (unlit side) into the baptismal font to santcify the water.

It's rather neat. However there must have been a SERIOUS change in the Easter vigil since the last time I attended. Most masses last an hour. the vigils (Easter and Christmas) tend to last a half hour more. This one ran two and half hours. It was horrible. Everyone was restless. I knew we were in trouble when there were EIGHT passages and they were determined to sing everything (luckily we didn't read all of the passages but they DID sing every line of every prayer and every song, no short cuts). One of the passages was rather creepy and I noticed the homily, which tried to explain why the passages were chosen by teh church, glazed right past that one. Also was it necessary to add twenty more saints to pray to in the literguary of the saints above and beyond the 34 that were already there (yes I counted)

Honestly, ritual is one thing, droning on for two and half hours is tedious. Most people don't want to watch a movie they love for that long. Two passages would have been perfect. Then they wanted us to stay for cake and talk until it was Easter Morning. I ran for the car.
