she happily announces that Think Geek sent her a new catalogue and she's picked out mother and father's days gifts for me to buy

she also tells me Lucky Uncle is at the new casino, the one I'm always talking about was just a temporary tent okay you couldn't tell it was a tent but there you have it.

Lucky Uncle says it's gorgeous

Lucky Uncle won 8 grand tonight

Lucky Uncle just did his taxes and won over 50,000 last year

I hate Lucky Uncle somes days

One day I shall find a way to siphon his luck

Okay class, if you have two holes in the skull one is called the optic foramen where do you think you might find it?

You have one called the auditory (acoustic) meatus where do you think you might find that?

want to know how many of my students had no clue after 13 weeks of working it?

I picked out some stuff for [livejournal.com profile] springkink which was rather hard. I really didn't spark on any prompts except my own which I forgot were my own until I really sat down with the list of maybes. I'm so lame. Naturally i twigged on several of my usual beta/cowriter so no surprise there. THere is one though that's a crossover that's making me happy.

Optic Foramen... I guess that would be where the optic nerve go through to the interior of the skull... right? So I'd guess it would be behind the eyes. the other one, I guess would be on the sides of the head. Woudln't there be two? one for each ear? One for each eye? or are the eyes close enough together that it doesn't need two? or is it so far interior that it only needs one hole to get to the right part of the brain by then? Yah, I wouldn't think this would be a thing that they should be clueless on... I mean, I haven't seriously taken a biology class since 1984... I'm still interested, but I'm just guessing, and I bet my guess is more educated than theirs even while they are taking the class?

optic foramen -> um...gee...I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's where your EYES go.

auditory meatus -> *scratches head in mock befuddlement* your ears? ;)

Love those names, btw.

I love that your parents want you to order from ThinkGeek for them.

Wow - he really is lucky (or has made a pact with the devil...)

And, again, you have the coolest parents. I don't think mine even know the word 'geek'.

Surely. He doesn't need one of those houses. Or all of that money.

put this way you're absolutely right. as was my mother who hasn't been in school since 1960 and probably never even had biology. my students should be embarrased

The optic foramen is the passage through the orbit of the eye in the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone and the auditory (acoustic) meatus is the tube running from the outer ear to the middle ear..in other words part of the ear canal. DUH! What's so hard about *that*!?

We had to learn this during Paramedic training waaaay back in the 80's...and I can still remember it.
