My cousin with Down Syndrome that I mentioned a few weeks ago, passed away last night. Joycie was 69. I'm not tremendously sad because she was suffering. I'm glad that's over for her now. Like Dad said, maybe in the next phase of life she's getting a better deal than she got here. Rest in Peace Joycie.

Sorry to hear that but if she was suffering then it was for the best.

My condolences to you and your family.

I have an aunt with Down's; like your cousin, she has lived longer than anyone suspected when she was young (she's in her late 60s). Of course, when she and Joycie were young, most people with Downs were institutionalized, and I think they died early due to inadequate medical care, loneliness, and sheer boredom.

I believe Joycie is in a place of peace and joy now.

I am sorry to hear of your lose ( you probably heard that like a mllion times...) But seriously I like you point of view. Too many times do I see families keeping thier members alive by any means nessicary and NOT even trying to understand what that member is going through or suffering. I think after a certain point, letting them go is the best decision. I don't know the full case here, but if she was suffering, now we know she may have some peace^_^

She lived to 69, though. That's amazing. I hope she had a good 69 years.

she did. Her later life was pretty good but she was born at a time where all Down Syndrome babies were institutionalized and often forgotten (Joycie was lucky that way, her mother and siblings visited her often even in those days)

Aw. I lost my uncle a little over a year ago, and he had Down's. He was really high-level until the end, when he began to suffer from Alzheimer's. He was 56. :(

Aww :(

But like you said, at least she isn't suffering anymore.

It's not usual for a DS sufferer to live so long, right? I just hope she was able to enjoy most of it.

*hugs*
