“I can’t wait to see Winry and Granny,” Alphonse said as Roy swung the car into the drive in front of the yellow house. One of the ambassador’s men had met them with the totally unnecessary vehicle at the station and Roy had promptly sent the man to Central on the next train.
“I’m just glad to be off that train. My ass is numb,” Ed said as Roy parked. “But why the hell are you coming, Ambassador Asshole?”
“Because this is the second time I took you away from the lovely Miss Rockbell and for a second time I’m returning you no worse for wear,” Roy replied, slipping out of the car.
“And in under five months this time,” Alphonse said, bailing out of the back.
“That’s all my nerves and the Xingese people could handle, Alphonse.” Roy shook his head, his long ponytail swinging. In the three years since the Promised Day, with his ambassadorial position to Xing, Roy had embraced more of his parents’ culture.
“Do you smell pie?” Ed asked, ignoring the slight.
Roy sniffed. “I smell pipe smoke. Good pipe smoke, such a nice change after years of horrible cigarettes.”
“Yeah, so? Granny’s home. We figured that. That’s pie, I’m telling you.” Ed jogged to the door, forgetting his luggage. He didn’t even knock before thundering into the house calling Winry and Granny’s names. Alphonse followed more sedately with Roy taking up the rear. Den's barking echoed through the house, affronted by Ed's intrusion.
“Running through the house? You’d think you’re ten, not twenty,” Pinako said, coming out of the kitchen. Winry followed on her heels.
“Ed! Al! Oh, it’s you, sir,” she said, favoring Roy with a sour look.
“I just wanted to ensure they got home safely, Miss Rockbell, Doctor Pinako.” Roy’s eyes dilated as he walked over to her. “You both look well. You’re positively glowing, Winry.”
She turned startled but pleased eyes on him. “Thank you. I made apple pie. There’s plenty for everyone.”
“Actually, Alphonse, you promised to take me to that market that makes the world’s best sarsaparilla soda. Why don’t we try it out right now?” Roy headed for the door.
“But I just got here. I…” Al broke off, looking between Roy and Winry. “Okay, Ed, leave me some pie. I’m warning you.”
“You’re not staying?” Ed asked, surprised.
“Faster I show Roy the soda fountain, the faster he goes back to Central.”
Ed waved his arms frantically. “Take him!”
“I’ll come with if we add a stop to the Crossed Keys for a whiskey once you boys are done getting fizzy moustaches.” Pinako laughed.
“Whiskey and sarsaparilla, stomach don’t hate me,” Roy said, hustling Alphonse out.
Once outside Al eyed Roy. “Why did you rush me out of there?”
“I have good reasons,” Roy insured him, opening the car door for Pinako.
“Oh.” Al glanced back at the house. “So I did see what I thought I saw, didn’t I?”
“Depends on what you think you saw,” Roy said.
“Winry sporting a baby bump.” Al wrinkled his nose.
“Oh, it’s what you saw all right,” Pinako replied.
Al’s eyes went bigger than eggs. “Roy, drive fast!”
* * *
“That was delicious,” Ed said around the fork still dangling from his mouth.
“See what happens when you give me warning you’re coming home.”
Ed helped himself to another slice, ignoring Winry’s look. “Sorry I had to go again, Winry, but with Mei walking around as Pride and Ling wanting her dealt with, the only people who could do it were me, Al and the bastard.” Ed shrugged. “At least it was only a few months and Xing was amazing. You have to come with me next time.”
“Next time,” Winry moaned, leaning against the sink.
“When you want a vacation. It’s not bad now with the train lines restored. It’s not like we’re hiking the desert like Ling did to get here. Luckily, he kept Greed in submission most of the time we where there.” Ed glanced over at her, his eyes lingering. “Mustang’s right, you look great.”
Winry shook her head back. “I’ve been waiting for you to say something. I guess it’s hard to see me when you’re face down in pie.”
Ed flushed. “I noticed!”
“Notice anything different about me?”
“Um…no.”
Winry sighed, slapping her palms back against the kitchen cabinetry. “How can Mr. Mustang notice in three seconds flat but you don’t notice anything?”
“Uh.” Ed shoveled in more pie, figuring he’d better eat before she broke his jaw or something.
“Here’s a tiny hint.” Winry folded up the hem of her shirt up to the bottom of her boobs, which were looking even better than usual. She cleared her throat when he spent a little to long looking at those.
Ed’s gaze dropped down and that’s when he saw her belly sticking out just a bit. The fork fell from his mouth, sticking straight up in what was left of his pie. He made a few inarticulate noises, not really able to form coherent thoughts let alone give them voice, even though he could see his lack of abilities was upsetting Winry.
“Are you all right, Ed?” She dropped the hem of her shirt, shooting him a nervous look. “Are you angry?”
He hated himself for putting that idea in her head, for making her make that face. He bolted out of his chair, wrapping his arms around her. His lips brushed over hers. “No, of course not…a little stunned.”
“I was a little afraid to tell you,” Winry whispered.
Ed held her tightly, his metal arm creaking. “I can understand that. I’m sorry to make you feel that way, Winry.” Ed and Winry had talked before about his fears of marriage and family, not because he didn’t love her or feared commitment, but from his fear of becoming like Hohenheim, of leaving her alone too much. Ed knew it would be easy to do. Feeling her tremble, Ed feathered kisses over her closed eyes. “I love you so much, Winry. I’m happy. I really am. I’m scared, too, but this is me and you and we’re strong.”
“And our baby will be frighteningly stubborn and loud,” she said, relaxing against him.
Ed laughed. “That, too. Maybe Mom’s patience will have skipped a generation, provided Al didn’t hog up all those traits.” He kissed the top of Winry’s head. “I missed you every day I was gone. My luggage is full of gifts for you.”
“That is so sweet.” Winry took his hand. “Come on, daddy. I have a gift for you, too. It’s upstairs.”
“Daddy?” Ed trembled just a little. “ That’s going to take some getting used to.”
“You have about five more months to adjust.” Winry grinned, hauling him upstairs. Ed trotted along, still a bit stunned. Winry shoved him into her room then locked the door behind them.
“I don’t see a gift.”
“You are so thick sometimes.” Winry didn’t give him time to figure it out. Ed found himself suddenly almost naked, his pants caught around his boots. He stumbled out of Winry’s grasp before she knocked him down trying to get them off.
Once he figured it out, Ed kicked off his boots and pants then reached for her to gently put her in the bed. Winry bowled him into it instead, all but leaping onto him. Ed did manage to get her shirt up and off of her with more delicacy than she had shown him. He gathered her to him, kissing the small bulge of her belly. One kiss, then another as she stroked his hair. He kissed her breasts and neck as he wiggled her skirt and panties down. No need to go digging around in the bed stand for a condom this time and, what the hell, the last one broke putting them in this situation anyhow.
Winry’s strong hands kneaded and stroked his cock into full attention while he played with her nipples, tongue and fingers teasing, sucking and licking. Winry caught his wrists and shoved him back against the mattress. Ed wiggled. “Winry, is this okay for the baby?”
“Oh yes,” she panted. “I asked.” Her mouth sealed over his, cutting off any more lame discussion on his part.
Winry all but speared herself on him, her hips crashing against his. She felt warm and wet against his member. He could feel so much. So this is why guys were always griping about condoms. Sex had always felt good but this time, it was amazing.
Winry rode him with a fervor, letting go of his hands so she could grip his waist, picking up even more speed. A happy groan bubbled out of her as he went back to playing with her breasts. Ed arched into her, getting deeper as all coherent thoughts dribbled out his ear. The explosive finish came a little sooner than he hoped but Winry dropped onto the mattress next to him with a very happy expression on her face.
“You have no idea how much I needed that,” she rasped.
Ed could barely catch his breath to answer. “Wow.”
Rolling onto her side, Winry grinned at him. “Liked it?”
Ed made a happy sound. “More than just liked.”
She tapped his nose. “Good. Granny and some of the other girls say being pregnant is going to make me even hornier. It’s going to get worse before it gets better,” she teased and Ed’s eyes grew. “In fact, there might not be anything left of you by the time this is over but two well worn metal limbs.”
Ed laughed. “You won’t hear me complain. What a way to go.”
Winry looped an arm around him, snuggling in. “You’re staying, right?”
“You won’t be able to drive me off with a wrench.” Ed rested his living hand against her belly. “It’s still a little unreal to me.”
“Me, too, and I’ve had four months to get used to the idea.”
“You’ll be a great mom, Winry,” Ed said, his eyes getting heavy. “And I’ll be the best dad I can be.”
“We’re going to be fine, Edward,” she said, sounding as sleepy as he felt. “You’ll see.”
Deep down, Ed knew she was right.
