or at least know where those generic character generators are online...

I've been working out a few things with Beneath the Torn Sky (almost halfway done, hopefully tomorrow...) ANd I've been researching 1920's fashions something I haven't done since I quit writing historical Spike/Dru's as much. I had forgotten just how important the bob haircut was (probably because it's not one of my favorite styles)

Given the recent advent in female in men's roles in my story, I think I'm going to have to go bob everyone's hair. And decide what oil the guys are using to slick back their hair. Everyone's going to look like Roy at Maes' funeral... Killingsworth has decided he wants to look like a young Valentino. I'm ignoring him.

Still, it would be so much fun to be able to draw these guys and play with steampunk backgrounds....

anyhow, word count, you know you've been waiting on this bit of boredom

Dammit, if I wasn't in Singapore for the next two weeks, I would offer to knock out a few character sketches for you. Oh yeah and I'm there now, in sister-in-law's apartment drinking Thai beer while she shops and catches up with Dr. H.

I (appropriately enough) have a bob myself. Some girls didn't want to lose their hair, and faked it by cutting the front and putting the back in a bun, or just folding the front bits under. One thing that was fashionable but looks funny now is permed bobs, which were then fluffed up until the wearer looked like a poodle (enemytosleep: what's wrong with looking like a poodle? *shakes fist*).

On another note, I love how Roy just can't slick back his hair properly, it goes straight back in his eyes.

Me too. But even stick people can be a challenge for me.

I wish I was more familiar with steampunk. I had two stories that would be steampunkish and I just couldn't pull them out. At least without a lot more prep time and considering I couldn't make up my mind until the last couple of days... yeah.

Woot! You're almost half way. I'm still short. I should have written yesterday but it was just one of those seriously blah days. I think I got like 300 words down.

Nice Goku along the top there. Makes me want to watch the series again. :D

same here. is that stick male or female....

I'm not overly familiar with it either, well iAM with the original masters. It's more mystery than it is anything and those i know like the back of my hand.

good luck with yours. I didn't post the night before for the same reason. Ah well.

Goku is just such a sweetie

Well that's very sweet of you thanks. I'm not sure I've had Thai beer. I've had beers from all over though. Enjoy Singapore.

I have never really liked short hair or looked good in it (I've only had a bob once back in the 70's) so my characters tend to have longer hair but yeah these ladies should have bobs.

Nods, they sometimes did that also to keep their jobs and their husbands. Many a woman found herself unemployed for bobbing her hair. My girls are glaring at me so probably not a poodle perm ... Only Violet still has long hair mostly because she's still in a traditional woman's role (librarian) and she has really beautiful hair.

I figure these woman look a lot like your picture of little Roy and his older sis.

Yes Roy's hair is untameable. As is Maes who probably comes closest to having a proper haircut for the time period.

Really, you could get the sack for bobbing your hair? Yikes - but I suppose it doesn't surprise me.

I stuck Roy's sister with a terrible poodle perm (it's Iris of whisky sour recipe fame, btw, but I didn't name her). I'm fairly sure that's a terrible bleach job too. Oh well, she has good taste in booze?

Maes' hair is a bit less daft, though. I imagine his mockery of Roy's failure to do slicked hair well would be totally endless.

back then you sure could. It was seen as a sign of feminine rebellion.

Yes I do remember that poor sister having the poodle do

oh I'm sure it is (that's going into something somewhere now) Most of the dudes in Beneath the Torn Sky have Maes hair
