I hope everything goes well in the replacement. I remember when I was fourteen and they told me right after that shunt revision that they thought I might have an infection and that that shunt might have to be revised again that very day. I was scared out of my mind.

Luckily, all I seemed to require was a course of heavy antibiotics (which I actually turned out to be allergic to, though only while awake -- odd, diurnal hives...) and the shunt has been with me since then.
Is there a possibility that something similar might happen with your aunt?
