I got the usual parental call tonight (now that mom has free calling after 9pm on her cell phone she likes to call every night there's not something she wants to watch on tv) Well tonight it was my dad on the line and I'm thinking uh-oh what's wrong? My dad never calls me.

Iktomi's missing. Turns out my cat's been missing for a week but they didn't want to tell me and upset me. No one knows where he is. THey've put up flyers and dad's checked the woods and the sides of the roads. All we know is that he's not lying dead in any of his usual spots.

The vet told them that it's not unusual for male cats just to take off and come back months even years later. It's happened to most of my friends who've had male cats. Heck it happened to Sharon and I and SPike the cat in FL. So I'm not giving up on Iktomi yet. I'm hoping he'll come home. My parents are still looking for him. The only thing we hope, this close to Halloween is that someone didn't take a black cat to do terrible things to.

Thanks. Sadly I think they're even more upset than me because he's been living with them for 3 years when I was away at school and couldn't take him with me.

Let's just hope that he's up to tom cat stuff.

I hope so. He's never been gone for a week (and sadly he's neutered so he can't be doing too much tom catting)

I do to. I've got a feeling he's gone though.

That sucks. And that doofy cat is friendly enough to go to people. Hope we get good news about the Evil One soon.

I know. Dad's been out in the woods every night looking for him. At least there's no body lying somewhere. Maybe, like Spike, he'lljust show up months from now

Or, whenever the deer or bunnies chase him out of the woods.

exactly. Our land is posted so likely no one shot him as a rabbit

Which is a good thing, because he doesn't look very-rabbit-like.

no but cats tend to jump thru the woods like rabbits...and hunters seem to just hate cats (because they kill birds/rabbits)

Hope he shows up soon, but yea, a week for cat to be missing is no time, my aunts was missing for months once and eventually turned up.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat, it must be worrying, not knowing what's happened. But as you say, they do sometimes go off for a while. My friend had a tabby that did just that - he just appeared about 3/4 months later, looking grubby and thin, but otherwise good.

Fingers crossed for you.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that he's just out tom catting around and he'll return soon. I used to have a cat (a female none the less) that would go missing for weeks on end so hopefully that's all it is.

I'm hoping. LIke I said, Spike the Cat came back after a year. Some of my other friends had them do the same, gone for a year and come back. Iktomi is neutered but he is male so...

Thanks. My only hope is if someone took him, it's because he was friendly and sweet and not because they found a big black cat to do things to

That's what we're all hoping, even my dad who despite the fact he told me weekly how much he didn't like the bugger, is really upset that he's gone

That's a horrible thought. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be fine.

At this time of the year, that horrible thought's all too often reality. But, there's nothing I can do to change things so I have to accept that he's disappeared
