To be honest, I've got nothing for you here. I've spent the weekend working on a syllabus and knowing WHY I'm doing this has depressed me. I was going to murmur something writing female characters but right now that's just pissing me off so... (to see what I mean, browse reviews for female fantasy characters and see three camps, one pissed off that the woman are EQUAL and not superior to men, one that's thrilled to see strong females (bless them) and ones angry we're exposing our youth to women who don't want to get married and have kids and want a job (seriously, is this STILL that shocking after all these years???)

But to keep you from looking at this and leaving empty handed, go look at the last three posts by moschus. All very helpful on the whole writing thing especially the currently all important author's platform.

as for my own writing, this was a good week. I DID finish the threesome. I did sell a bunch of my first short story with Dreamspinner and I'm THIS close to finishing big bang.

I wrote 4400 words this week and brought my goal up over the 10% mark for the year

21971 / 175000 words. 13% done!

Ha, that first moschus post was horribly familiar for me. I actually didn't outline my Big Bang, which was my first experience writing a bigger plot with no plan. I did quite quickly get a plot structure together while I was writing, but trying to make set plot points happen was really constricting the characters. It seems to be flowing better now I'm just letting Chris and Roy hang out a bit ... at the eleventh hour.

Yay for over 10%. As ever, I'm impressed with your productivity. Go Big Bang and editing Demon Hunters Get it On.

i'm less for outlining than just taking notes but to me keeping a word count goal insures i'm writing and not just dicking around.

I just totally got an unwanted fic bunny for Olivia arguing with mom or dad about that one. Parent: "Armstrong family has been buying their leather hog ties from this firm for generations!" Olivia: "I'll judge with my own eyes whether their workmanship is superior!"

I vary. Sometimes it's really helped with NSI, sometimes it's felt constricting. It's definitely good whatever I do to try and learn to recognise when the current approach just isn't working. Looking back at my Big Bang I can't believe I had so many false starts with it. It's been through a lot of changes since I had the idea.

I always figured it was best to treat your characters as individual people, be they male or female ... although now that I think about it, my female characters do tend to kick ass in their own individual ways.

my issues are more reader-based. some people really want men to be unequal to women and I can't stand that attitude be it men over women or women over men.
