I had a lot to say. I can't remember any of it. By now we've all seen the political thing. There are reasons I never put political things in my LJ. One is I DON'T want to read my friends political views nor do I feel like talking about mine (Ben Franklin was quite right about that being a real way of ending a friendship) I know a lot of my friends like to talk about it so I just skip on past. The other reason is what happened with the SS. I've worked on and off for the fed. government since the 80's (my older friends will remember the snit I used to throw about EQ fans puttnig my 'elf name' on the envelope. I knew damn well this stuff was being monitored since I worked in a gov. lab) Let's just say I long ago developed a black helicopter styled paranoia about the government (to the point when the Lone Gunmen first appeared on X-Files my Dad called me to tell me he found the perfect man for me. Sadly  he picked Langley. I mean, come on, Dad, don't I rate a Beyers?)

Things here: The dean seems happy with me. Looks like I'll be here one more semester and they want to train me even better to teach on their dime before cutting me loose after the spring semester (I'm here on a grant to pick up a huge glut of students). She's of the same mind as me. The students need to stop bitching and do the work.

I'm heading to FL tomorrow to pack up the rest of me stuff and get it out of  [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog's house and it does work out well since I'm still legally residing in FL [Bad username or unknown identity: and I'm here on a temp work assignment (that'll change if they do renew me in Jan). I NEVER ]

[Unknown site tag][Bad username or unknown identity: got my absentee ballot for FL (seems they lost close to 60,000 of them. Go figure. At this point I'm]

[Bad username or unknown identity: sure voting in FL is like pissing into the wind) so I can vote in person.]

I totally agree with you and Ben Franklin. I actually had a trusted friend asked me who I voted for in the last federal election up here, and I didn't answer him. I just changed the topic.

Also it doesn't surprise me with what happened to that person on LJ.

And I know you can get 50,000 words done in a month.

Actually, I saw a doco-like segment on Foreign Correspondent (which is like a current affairs shows focusing on the current affairs in other countries) about the voting in Florida this election, and it looked pretty dismal. I'm inclined to agree with you.

And the whole Secret Service thing? Like, I'm not even old enough to vote, but I don't think I've ever been gladder that I live in Australia.

My parents are like that. I used to bug them every election for them to tell me who they voted for, but they never would. Though I did know who they voted for this year (in the Australian federal election), because my mother took to calling the opposition leader 'Marky' in a very derisive tone, and my father sat down and outlined exactly why his policies were unbalanced and unsubstantiated.

I'm not old enought to vote yet. I can't say I'm looking forward to it much.

I'm not surprised at what happened to [livejournal.com profile] anniesj either, but she did admit that she was wrong, and I think that a lot of people are really blowing everything out of proportion. It's pretty much out of control now.

If you're planning to vote in person, vote early. I read somewhere that you'll have to be holding your blank absentee ballot in order to vote on Tuesday.

Yeah... gotta move.

Glad to hear you'll be (semi-)gainfully employed for another semester!

What, Frohicky (sp?) doesn't even rate??

Frohicky belongs to my frined Evil Little Dog (who's place I'm going back to today to clean out the rest of my stuff since she's had enough of FL too). Dad's right though, Langley is who I'm destined to be with. There's really no one who doubts it.

I hope so. THe dean said it with a wink and nod but it looks like it'll be just what I thought, I'm here next semester and gone come summer. I'm cool with that. I know this really isn't where I want to stay but if they want to give me more courses so I look better on the resume more power to them and I'll start shopping around in Jan.

ELD and I will keep this in mind.

Yeah I noticed that. Another reason to keep out of it. Problem is my brother and one cousin LOVE to talk politics and they're ultraconservatives which drives me nuts. If they'd leave me out of it I'd be happy but they refuse to do that.

Some of my floridian friends have informed me that they're expecting to only handle 70 people per hour...how many of us will NOT get to vote at that rate?

thanks for the nanomo support.

I just wish I could get my brother to agree with me. He and my cousin love to argue politics and religion. It always ruins the holidays for me

I don't know what she said in her original post but I do know that the patriot act in the US does over-ride civil liberties.

I do agree that it is out of control now.

Will you get more courses next semester than you're teaching now?

At least there's only about 70 people IN town. We should be in and out pretty quickly.

that's yet to be seen. THe dean was like well maybe you should just teach lab and he teach class if we feel lab is being neglected and I'm thinking okay it's getting neglected because we have to take CLASS time to fit in lab and it doesn't always work. It USED to be a seperate entity but no longer is. I'm hoping I teach all of general next semester

The post pretty much amounted to 'dear God, please kill Dubya. Amen.'

What is the Patriot Act, exactly? I've heard of it, but I'm not entirely sure what it entails.

That was for the more populated areas like Broward-Dade. Though I voted with Penguin Boy today, and it took him an hour before I showed up + an hour after I showed up to get through.
