I made it to Denver. ELD dropped me off at the airport. Tiny thing. They had the gate locked to even get to my gate. So much for arrive one hour-one and a half hours early. I shared a two seater aisle with a h.s. girl going home to Viet Nam. She was a cute kid. Amazingly it wasn’t a horrid stopover in O’Hare. I ended up walking all the way back to Indiana or so it felt like trying to find my Orbitz seat on the plane to Denver. I’m on the window and comic book geek kid is next to me. I thought he’d get to move over but just as we were about to lock it up here she comes down the aisle, too blond, too tan and too sure she’s all that (with her shades still on). She looks at me and says ‘you’re in my seat.’ No, I’m not. My seat is the window. ‘Well I’m 30-D.’ Yep that’s the aisle. I’m 30 f. Look at the diagram at your eyelevel. She realizes that the power of her boobs isn’t moving geek boy OR me and sits down in a huff. Oh aren’t you a special snowflake, princess? Thank god I wasn’t moving for her. In 2 hours, she went to the bathroom for extended periods four times and now I know who orders those 7$ bottles of wine. At least the flight attendant was very cheery and gave me 3 cups of tea.
Being back in Denver brings back memories but i need to process them. It’s hard to breathe here. Me and the girl next door were doing synchronized inhalers as we waited for the elevator. It was a long ride in a van to here…right past a truly scuzzy section of town including a collection of homeless(either waiting for the good Samaritan house to open for the night or were the overflow) that I’ve not seen the like of since leaving NYC. The Hyatt just has you use an electronic kiosk to check in. I don’t like that. At a hotel THIS expensive the idea that you’re replacing front desk people with a machine truly bothers me.
For some reason I brought my broad band. Thankfully. The Hyatt wants 10$ a day for their wireless. Bite me. I’m paying well over 100$. I’ll go to the free Wi-Fi at the Starbucks around the block. Speaking of block, I’m one block off the 16th street mall, a pedestrian mall like State Street in Madison or High Street in Columbus. Nothing but cool stores and eateries. And they’re having a day of rock today, a band on every block. The concierge told me how to get to the Tattered Cover, the book store that’s on all the destinations of Denver websites. Get on the free mall bus (You can get around the mall by using this free bus, horse and buggy and bicycle rickshaw.
So I walk over there, jump on the bus and go. I have no idea if I’m going the right direction but it’s an adventure and I’m on it. I talk to the locals on the bus and find out I need to go to nearly the end of the line. In an old building (three stories though I wasn’t sure if the third was open) it’s all wood and otherwise it’s a usual book store but it’s local and I like that. Yeah there weren’t any deals (which sort of hurts them probably but not that you can tell) they do have bargains and used books too. They had tons of autographed books and books by locals. Got some YA fantasy book I’ve never heard of and they had a novelization of “Wicked City” which is an anime I’d like to get on DVD. I have it on vhs. Don’t ask me why I like it, it’s not kind to women and it’s kinky and violent but still…I didn’t realize the novel of that came out the year I graduate h.s. (i.e. 25 years ago. OH NOES).
A storm was moving in and I needed to eat so I hopped the bus back to a pub I saw on the way there, the Tilted Kilt. How could I resist that name? The guys serve in long black kilts and black shirts and the women…dear god, they’re practically naked. They wear a red tartan bra and a mini skirt that is shorter than that really, hip bones exposed and the ass barely covered and a white open crop jacket on over the bra. My waitress had some kind of saying from boob to hip down her side. I kept trying to get her over so I could read it. It was something about looking for the good in all things. Ended up with a beer that was nearly the price of my dinner ouch.
On the way back I stopped and danced in the rain with some of the people grouped around the country singer’s tent (I had danced with them there too when the performer was a folk singer female on my way out) But this is my second time change in as many days. I’m exhausted. Tomorrow I have to get up early so I came home to watch America’s Most Wanted.
Still you probably won’t see me on line much. I’m afraid to use too much of my broadband. I’m distrustful of Verizon. Oh btw, it gets the same shit reception here in Denver as it does where I’m at. Oh they’re going to hear about it when I get home.

I don't understand the fake blonde and fake tan thing.
It worked for Baywatch babes... it doesn't work in the real world. (Well maybe it does, but eww. I'll stay pale and contrary.)

Date: 2010-05-30 01:09 pm (UTC)Verizon will probably tell you that this time it's because you were "inside a building, and we can't guarantee service inside of buildings"
