i'll be over my usage by tomorrow. Debating on paying the overage or staying offline for another week.

I’m trying to remember the adorable things Kanda did today but I’m forgetting one. This morning he chased his tail until finally running headlong into the wall in his attempts. I shouldn’t laugh at him brain damaging himself but it was funny.

Tonight, he’s getting more like Iktomi (a former cat of mine with plenty of personality). He now watches the tub fill and can’t wait for me to get in. He likes to watch me read in the tub. Tonight as I was drying my hair, he kept trying to catch the droplets then would shake a wet paw in disgust when he succeeded and cry about it.

And earlier he sneezed then jumped around as if a) totally unsure of WHAT that noise was and b) who made it.

Less adorable: using all four paws to try and shove my hand into his mouth. Also his inability to understand that after getting a drink of water, the back of my leg is NOT his napkin.

Though he has a nasty wound on his leg. He’s scraped himself raw from elbow to ankle. I have no idea how. It’s dry and uninfected so I’m not worried.

Today was my favorite exam for my non-majors (i.e. not technically health care people though some want to be.) The basic physiology test. Here are some of my favorite answers

Where should fertilization happen – SA Node (that’s in the heart)
What causes the heart noises – fallopian tubes (really? So men have no heart beat?)
In a pregnancy what forms in a month – fallopian tubes again
Where does a baby develop? – ovary.
And in spite of me making them repeat this to me every day last week 85% missed the question of in the lungs this gas ______________moves into the blood and this gas_________leaves the blood to be exhaled.

God I love them. If I get cirrhosis of the liver we know who to blame..

SA Node fertilization sounds like an episode of House.

Kitten sounds adorable. Aw babies.

Taking some time away from the net will help with your writing? I'd be tempted to pay overage fees. Bad me.

snort it does

kitten is pretty cute when he wants to be. right now frontline isn't working again...i need a better flea med for cats

it would help my writing (i could do some net stuff at work) still..might pay the overage

I think some people have said that Advantix works better for them than frontline.

I wasn't sure that you could put that on cats (and my vet only sells one so I'm not sure I get a straight answer there). revolution is another one i thi nk is safe for cats

It's for 6 months dose. So I'm not sure if that's a comparable price if you went somewhere local. I use Valley Vet to get some things for my horse.

Edit: Sigh. location totally is local. really. I need to go the flip home and back to bed.

that's cheaper than frontline. Do i need to get a RX from the vet for this site?

thanks

I've never seen anything saying that would need a RX, so I would say that you don't.

I didn't know who to laugh at the most....silly kitty or those students.

SA Node fertilization...huh....fun and here Gerry & I tried it the other way. Which was infinitely far more fun. *grinning*

Your students never cease to make me fear ever going into hospital.

luckily most of these ones will never see a hospital. they have other plans thank god

I could answer all those questions correctly and I haven't opened a biology textbook in 30 years. Shame on your students.

OK, so I have a morbid fascination with diseases and injuries and spend a lot of time reading my aunt's old medical encyclopedia, but still...

It rather frightens me that a lackadaisical English major like myself appears to know more about basic anatomy than your potential health care students...

luckily most of these AREN'T health care but my god, this is basic crap I started learning in elementary school

I share your pain from the students. My personal favorite: Which of the great apes is most closely related to humans? Panda. (I have no idea where that answer came from...none.)Although my favorite answer was Mike Tyson.

Gotta love kitties. Baby Chloe jumped over Cassie this morning and did a flip in the air. Where was the camera when I needed it.

Date: 2010-08-10 03:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
I am in love with those answers. Panda....really?

oh you never have the camera when they do something cute and if you do they stop as soon as you manage to turn it on

Date: 2010-08-11 01:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ljgould.livejournal.com
The whole question was a throw-away...just something I mentioned when talking about human variation within groups. I didn't say anything about pandas! I even handed the paper to my roomie and asked if it said what I thought it said.

Oh, yeah...get the camera and all movement comes to a halt. All the cats go to sleep. hmmm...maybe I should use that late at night to stop the 3:00 am play time.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
hahaha good luck with that. 3AM play time is important

the lungs this gas ______________moves into the blood and this gas_________leaves the blood to be exhaled.

If that's what I think it is (oxygen and carbon dioxide, respectively), I'm really worried about your students. I learned that in fifth grade.

Date: 2010-08-10 03:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
and you know what i TOLD them this was 5th grade material (and you're right)

From: [identity profile] mjules.livejournal.com
I actually learned it in fifth grade earth sciences, believe it or not (though I'm sure they told us in health, too) because that's why plants are important: They breathe in CO2 and breathe out O2, so we're very symbiotic.

Date: 2010-08-10 04:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yes exactly. they don't get THAT part either

"And earlier he sneezed then jumped around as if a) totally unsure of WHAT that noise was and b) who made it."

My cat Ewok, probably the stupidest animal I have ever lived with, would fart loudly and then jump around to see where the noise came from. Moron. This is the same one that ran into the door head first.

Tell your class this: I've not had an anatomy and physiology in nearly four years and I know the answers to those questions. :S

snort. Animals, silly creatures.

oh these guys are just pathetic but i'll gladly give them the F they earned

lol kitties.

AP Bio was my worst subject in high school (as far as the AP exam went) and even I know the answers to those questions. Makes you wonder if they're really that dumb or they do it on purpose to try and be funny (and it's not).

Date: 2010-08-10 09:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
I sometimes wonder that myself, do they think they're funny and oh how they are not.

Date: 2010-08-11 08:28 pm (UTC)

I don't know how they think anyone's supposed to/going to find that kind of stupidity funny, but alas.

Also makes you wonder how they could possibly WANT an F at all, I'd probably die if I ever got an F on anything hahaha

From: [identity profile] nefelokokkygia.livejournal.com
true true, and no matter if it's high school or college, I'd get killed by my parents for an F; a waste of good money if all you're going to do is half-ass the whole time.
