I did forget to say I hope petaling with Pete(or something along those lines) went well for [livejournal.com profile] ishte with the heat advisory for most of OH I hope no one got sick on the charity ride.

If people have wondered why I don't just move from here and rent something else, you have to be here to understand ([livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog can attest to this). This is the beginnings of the Appalachian Mts and hillbilly life. There are almost NO rentals here. My place is new only 6 years old and it's actually nicer than anything I've seen. There was one place to rent in Gallipolis that wasn't HUD but it's a huge meth site. Jackson has only one place that's not HUD, ditto springvalley.

Rental houses are like hens teeth. My school routinuely puts new profs up in the dorms since there is simply no housing. Many profs end up in rental trailers and I'm not talking nice double wides. i'm talking 1970's tin cans.

I could buy a house. There are plenty for sale since this whole area is dying. OH was one of the hardest hit areas in the recession right behind Michigan. In fact I just saw today the house I want in Jackson (if i want city (ha) living) has been reduce to 52K. I could buy that. Except a) I want to leave here b) my tenure is coming due this fall and if I DON'T get it I'm out of here (and this is a possbility, almost no new scientists joined the ranks of the freshman) c) my student loans make it impossible for me to get it in my own name.

SIgh.

And then there is the issue of no pets in most rentals. Speaking of which Kanda is now walking normal and is back to being evil. However, he did something last night he's never done before. As I was watching [livejournal.com profile] kekeshi he insisted on being held. He climbed up my arm and refused to let me write. He was like LOVE ME. NOW DAMN YOU.

The List

Kanda please note the following behaviors are not in your best interest

A) rubbing on my legs when I’m fresh from the shower.

B) sneaking into the bathroom in the dead of night and licking the side of my butt while I’m on the commode

C) whining in general

D) tossing your food on the floor

E) trying to trip me at any time (I nearly sat on you last night, trust me that wouldn’t have been fun)

F) Note it is possible for you to pee/poop in that big ass litter box without hitting the sides.

G) shoelaces are not a toy. You have dozens of toys go play with them

H) my toes are not edible

I) When have you ever seen me open the fridge and give you something? Your face does not belong inside there.

Please pick at least three of these and work on your behavior

I also remembered the other happy thing I forgot yesterday. I feel like making jewelry again. I've pinpointed part of the problem. I used to have the stuff in a little tacklebox which made it easy to work. Now it's just in a sack. it's hard to get excited when you don't even know what you have. I hate that muchly. I don't like the big three drawer things walmart sells. Anyone know where i could get an organizer.

I have one of the big three-drawer things for my leatherworking supplies. Great for heavy-duty crap like that, but I would never put beads in it. There's too many places for small objects to fall through (like down the back behind the drawers). Surely there's another small tackle box in your WalMart somewhere, though. Those are the best.

right now my walmart is torn to hell. I have no idea where the sporting goods is but last i looked the tacklebox was too small. i'll have to check a Dick's the next time i'm at a mall

I gave up on tackle boxes for my beads and went with the flat organizers. The Shimano brand tackle organizers with the rounded-bottom compartments are my favorites, especially for small items that like to hide in corners.

where do you find those? since yeah I'm way beyond what a regular tackle can hold

I might have found mine at Kmart. They were in with the fishing stuff, whatever. The organizers you find at craft stores are very similar, but usually the compartments don't have the rounded bottoms. Apparently fishermen are more demanding of convenience than crafters.

Check this site. (http://www.jewelrysupply.com/products/PB100.html?catPath=396_425) I get a lot of beading supplies from them.

Kanda is definitely a cat. Cairo has many of those behaviors. *g*

Their prices are pretty good (I usually get Swarovski from them, it's the cheapest place I've found the crystals) and delivery is fast.

Hee!

Oh, Kanda. You do not know what you have wrought.

I love my tackle box. I've had it for years, though.

Love the cat's list. All fit my girls except F...they are fastidious little girls. Thing is cats don't change their behaviors; they expect us to change ours.

that's where me and my cats tend to run into troubles since neither of us are willing to change

B) sneaking into the bathroom in the dead of night and licking the side of my butt while I’m on the commode

I nearly pissed myself at this! LOL

I use a tackle box for my jewelry stuff. Got it at Wal-Fart a while back to use when in art school. Works great.

On that house thing, you could buy a house in TX. Texas law does not allow them to take your 'house or horse' to repay a federal debt.

On a more practical note, you could buy one of those houses locally and maybe keep it in a family member's name, and then consider this... knowing that you want to move out of where you are when you can find a position preferably in Wisconsin, you can always rent the house out. Think about it. If all the rentals are HUD homes and nobody who actually has an income can find housing, you should be able to pick and choose who rents from you. Just make sure you get a home that can support itself on what you can rent it for once you move out. Eventually that house will provide you with an income (or officially the official owner)

Another question. Most of the homes in this area that accept HUD or GreenMet (the local county level of low income housing) are privately owned and the landlords can and will rent to people who do not qualify for HUD, but who can pay the rent without assistance. They're happy either way as long as they get their rent payments on time. You might want to check into that too.

btw, thanks for your good wishes for my ride. Everything went very well, and I had a good time. We did have one stretch of cobble that was pretty rough riding, but it made the last two or three miles seem like cake once we were off that scrabble. We may also be riding in another ride soon.
