seriously for the last 3 days i keep forgetthing this and then when i remember i don't post since i already spammed enough for one day then I forget again.

Kanda was the devil's own tonight. It would have been the perfect time to get into a swimsuit and into the tub and just record him. he kept diving to his elbows in the water. After what, only he could tell you.

Yay, mom's coming one day later than planned. neither one of us can get our shit together. yay. No offense to mom but i NEED that time.

Just saw Verizon is refunding wrongful billing. I've had this broadband since Feb and never had an issue, starting in July I'm ALWAYS over. I wonder if there isn't something wrong here.

This is the work of the one neighbor I have no issues with. She decorates really nicely.

I totally thought that was a Guy for a moment, as in Guy Fawkes Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night#United_Kingdom_customs). Which is probably why the cute pumpkin display just says ritual burning to me. The British have fun holidays?

Burning effigies is fun? There's actually surprisingly little protest here, probably because no one takes the holiday remotely seriously any more. People do sometimes burn effigies of politicians etc they don't like instead. Maggie Thatcher was a favourite for that back in the day.

He was a poor dude, though - he was a minor conspirator who was painted as ringleader by the authorities because he was the one they happened to catch. It's a rather nasty story.

Interestingly, Prof. Wiki claims (without citing sources) that the whole tradition of burning guys is an old British Samhain custom that was appropriated after the Gunpowder Plot and given a political spin.

wonders if i can burn effigies of certain bigoted family members on Guy Fawkes day...

yeah I've read a little bit about the guy but not much.

there may be some truth to the Samhain thing but it's hard to say

Wicker man!

Actually, it's most likely one of those pagan-justification things, like claiming that the word "mermaid" isn't a Latin-Saxon melding of "sea" and "young woman," but rather a corruption of "merry maid," which is a coded reference to witches who were persecuted until they threw themselves into the sea. I have yet to see any sane etymologist back that interpretation.
