IWRY B/A Marathon Story
Nov. 22nd, 2004 10:45 amAgainst all odd I DID finish this monster and thanks to
evil_little_dog and
marenfic for the edits and there's other copious thank you's to my Flist for their help with this. Note to any and all readers: because I'm participating in nanowrimo and have to churn out a 50,000 word novel in a month I did NOT have time to add in all the action and description to this story like my beta's (and I myself) wanted me to so consider this a WIP. It's done but it's rough. Just watch my LJ for an update for the polished work or if you're not on the Flist and want to know just drop me some feedback in the ol' comments box and I'll gladly let you know when it's done.
That part done, let me also say this is story #3 in the Brambles and Burrs series and there is no need to read the first two to get this one (what little backstory you need for this is in the author's notes) so without further ado here's The Thin Spun Life

Date: 2004-11-22 06:22 pm (UTC)I really enjoyed that. While I'm looking forward to the polished version, I think you did a great job with the rough draft.
I can see Angel getting discouraged so easily, especially considering his success rate, or lack thereof, with relationships and with Buffy in particular. Despite his acknowledgement that he's been wrong in the past, Angel still hasn't broken that habit of not discussing things and then making decisions for other people. It was nice to see Connor be the one to give him the wake-up call.
Speaking of Connor, I loved the way you had him pestering Angel constantly. It was amusing and yet telling; that was the only way that Connor was capable of interacting with Angel. He wants to have a relationship with his father, but he just isn't ready to deal with their issues so he falls back on annoying him. It was funny and sad at the same time.
And I loved the B/A interaction. I truly believe that their intial reunion will be that awkward and that full of anxiety, fear and love. For someone who doesn't write them primarily, you do B/A very well.

Date: 2004-11-22 07:48 pm (UTC)They also would likely have movies in common - we already know that Angel has a secret thing for Indiana Jones. Plus dancing - maybe they could meet halfway and try out tap. Who doesn't like tap dancing?

I'm glad you liked the story. COnnor was being such a brat.

Date: 2004-11-23 04:11 am (UTC)I'd have a heart attack if he was my kid. There are some things a parent doesn't want to know. I believe in don't ask/don't tell when a kid is a certain age.

Date: 2004-11-23 06:42 am (UTC)Angel giving up easily is very believable, and so is the way Connor keeps irritating his father in a way to interact with him.
I'm looking forward the complete version of this fic.
