Buffy cut through the cemetery, dusting two vampires freshly risen - one still half in her grave - before heading across town. She aimed for the outskirts. The mansion came into view, a light burning in the window. She wasn't sure why Angel had wanted her to come over. Things had been a bit tense since his Christmas suicide attempt a few days ago. Buffy still couldn't think about that without her eyes getting blurry.

The dangerous romance of the snowfall that day had been muted by the reason she was out with him in the middle of the morning to begin with. She had almost lost him and that was reason enough to come tonight. When she stepped into the mansion, some big band sounds echoed out of the TV and an announcer talked over it about the impending new year.

Angel smiled when he saw her. "Perfect timing, Buffy. Five minutes to midnight."

Her eyebrows raised. "You're not going to make me wear a silly sparkly hat, are you?"

He snorted. "No, but I do have this." He carried over a tray with two glasses and a bottle on it. "A little holiday cheer."

Buffy's eyes lit up. "You're giving me wine?"

"Sparkling grape juice." Angel poured two glasses and handed her one. "You're too young and it has no taste to me so this will do."

"I didn't think you'd be the type to celebrate New Years," she said, accepting it.

Angel shrugged. "I used to always be up for a good party and this year…maybe I should celebrate the gift of being back."

"The snow was good evidence that you belong here," she replied, her voice cracking. Buffy tried to cover it by taking a swig of the juice.

Angel pulled her against him and they counted down the year in kisses.
