cornerofmadness: Angel in drag holding up cards (ice)

looked like a time to use the icon [livejournal.com profile] ishte made me. Luckily the snow held off until the end of the day. I raced it home after I picked up Soul. Either my vet waits until midday or uses a ton of anesthesia because my cats always come home almost insensible. Poor Soul now has cleaned out ears and no balls. He tried to hide from me. I did pick him up and hold him for an hour. Now that he's more lucid he won't leave me alone. HOLD ME AND MAKE ME BETTER. Sorry buddy.

Let's see Writing:

My FMA bigbang has issues. It was dragging. I thought okay 'action scene.' Great I managed to write myself into such a massive hole. Repeat after me action scenes are not the answer to everything. I've set up a situation that if people communicated as they should, the big twist is totally ruined. Sigh. Now I have to set up a contrived series of why they can't talk which will probably FEEL contrived. I'll lose too much word count and the villians actually doing something but gah it totally destroyed the sensibility.

My Saiyuki big bang simply has too many issues to deal with. It's not got the huge horrible plot explosion FMA does but it's just sitting there.

my pro writing is stalling out in spite of the original filters help but that's due more to the insane schedule i have right now

TV TALK - hey there are new shows to try out

The Cape - okay, seriously I would have liked a good superhero show but this...it's painfully lame. Dear Hollywood, quit casting Summer Glau as a kick ass heroine. She can't pull it off. She looks like and is a little ballerina. She doesn't do tough well. This reminds me way too much of Batman meets Eyes Only on Dark Angel and without anything that made those endearing.

Bob's Burgers - who the hell thinks this is funny? This was painful and crude. What am I missing people?

Photobucket

we'll kill you with our laser eyes

ETA - finally remembering to put stuff on Archive of our own. I have NO idea why other than I can put NC-17 stuff there but I'm not sure why I'm bothering for anything that isn't. In one YEAR I had exactly 100 hits total in two fandoms. In 2 weeks on FFN I have over 3000. Yeah. And half the time Ao3 screws up something. I'm very unimpressed with one exception. I can put stuff in a series

ETA2 - WTF!!! My FMA bigbang has reverted to an OLD copy. How I have no idea? I mean this wasnt' on my flash or the hard drive since I fixed it before i went home for Christmas. I have a printed version of the newer one but now every copy is this old version. WHERE did it come from and how did it get overwritten onto everything. WAAAAH. At least i DO have the print out so I can retype. just what i needed

Soul looks a lot older than I thought he was.

The Cape did nothing for me. I'm enjoying Fairly Legal at this second. Leo is amusing.

I like the icicle icon. :D

I have not heard anything good about The Cape.

Sorry about the writing woes.

it's pretty lame. It's like half way thru the 2 hour premiere we forget that the circus folk are bank robbers and it's never really mentioned much again...

thanks. the woes are woeful

I agree with you about the shows. One the other hand, less tv = more everything else XD

Aww, poor Soul!

I bet the big bangs will turn out wonderful :D

I managed to sit through about ten minutes of The Cape and it didn't catch my interest; nor did it hold it when I wandered back in the room. Oh, well. I didn't need another show to capture my interest (especially since I started DVR-ing first season X-Files on BBCA and the new Futurama eps on Comedy Central). And I didn't even try Bob's Burgers -- Matt Roush gave it a terrible review, and I've come to the conclusion that since The Simpsons the only animation that can make it on American television IS crude and unfunny (see: Family Guy). The Simpsons at least still remembers to throw in a little cerebral comedy to balance out the crudity to keep both sides of their audience happy.

I miss The Critic.

the cape is just that bad

Family Guy used to at least be funny but it hasn't been that in more than a few years. now it's just crude and offensive

I did not like the Critic. I do miss Futurama.

I own the first season of the X-Files but it doesn't stop me from watching it on BBCAmerica

Yeah, I never liked Family Guy; I was one of the people who didn't watch it the first time and was perplexed when it was brought back. Loved the Critic, though. Silly yet highbrow (the eps made for FOX were better than the ones made for ABC).

I have three seasons of Futurama on DVD and I'm still watching it on Comedy Central. At least it's on DVR so I can FF through commercials!

I keep forgetting they've put new ones of Futurama on Comedy Central

Yeah, I'd forgotten, too, until I listened to Billy West on the Nerdist podcast! Then I remembered to program Tivo so I could see the new ones -- and it of course also records the repeats. Been fun re-watching.

I watched the two hour pilot of The Cape and then promptly forgot its existence unless someone mentions it. I didn't find it terribly engaging.

I did like Summer Glau in the Sarah Connor show.

Poor Soul. I hope his nether regions feel better quickly and that his ear problems are all fixed. I notice he isn't trying for surprise buttsex in that pic. LOL

We finally got snow, too. Blech. I can live without.

Date: 2011-01-21 05:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
it definitely wasn't

I didn't like her there either then again I didn't like anything about that show

Soul seems to be recovering far faster than Kanda. That pic was still last night and let's hope that's an end to the surprise buttsex

i don't mind the snow. it's the ice...

Strangely enough, I was talking with my students yesterday about Fridge Logic (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FridgeLogic) and the techniques films use to stop you noticing the plot holes until afterwards. We concluded that films use suspense, drama and comedy to keep the viewer gripped and immersed enough that they question the story logic less.

Obviously, you want to plug your plot hole, and so would I, but maybe you can make use of this to stop the reader noticing what you're worried is a contrived solution to the plot hole. So you could use your solution and rather than trying too hard to make it less convoluted, you could work on throwing stuff in that part of the narrative to keep the reader turning the page - funny stuff, cliffies, drama.

If you want to ping the bit in question by me too, maybe I can pay you back for your read through of my attempt to plug that terrible plot hole in NSI (in a convoluted way XD).

fridge logic i love it. That's about what I need (I also realized after i posted and ETA'd twice already) that I forgot Hoho was in town and I might want to make him reappear).

Right now I solved it by having something happen at CHris's bar while she's on the line with Roy giving him the 411 and doesn't get to tell him btw it's Belle and Snow who are the spies and I'm not sure I know who my true client is. All she gets out is Ed and Al are targets before she has to go put out a fire. She's going to call him back but hey it's the Icicle Festival and I fixed the why didn't she call back by having the snow bring the lines down.

whee i'm on a snow day speaking of which.

I could send you the document but it's 63 pages right now and it wouldn't be a simply matter of just looking at the last two chapters (or maybe it is) thanks though. I think the above solves it (well not the hoho part, maybe he needs to wander into Chris's bar)

I might reserve you for helping with plot holes in my heaven or hell story for a publisher who likes to give you 4 weeks to get something done and polished

I love TV Tropes. A great site. Of course the people in class who already knew it were my anime fan students with whom I once spent about half an hour after class talking about FMA.

Glad you found a fix. That sounds just fine to me - sometimes in real life the lines of communication just get dropped and important info gets missed. Much easier, too, in a world without email and mobile phones! (I remember our previous convo about plots that a mobile phone would spoil - yesterday my students and I added Don't Look Now to the list).

Hoho likes a drink from comments he's made in the manga, so I can see him just wandering in for a quiet pint.

I'd be happy to help! I need to get to your previous first.

it is a great site

yes, exactly, cars are sparse, unreliable phones (provided people HAVE a phone) and I've moved Roy into a big drafty house on the edge of town which would get cut off quicker.

and Hoho is a flirt...oh poor Ed

Al did and unfortunately for Ed he's using them on Roy's sister (while Hoho is flirting with CHris)

Poor Soul. Joining the ranks of the neutered and woe be until him, so he thinks.

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that about The Cape. She's like the Barbara Gordon to his Batman. She hands out all the high tech gadgets and the fast cars while he gets beat up.

That's what I'm sure they intend with Summer but I think now, after 3 hours of my life gone, I don't need to record anymore

I see from convo with Bob Fish that FMA Big Bang seems to have worked itself out. I am getting further into Saiyuki. :D I think I may ship Gojo (the pink haired half-demon guy) with the Miroku looking guy (Hakkai? Green Eyes? I still don't know what his name is - at least I have 3 of 4 now? XD). My solution to this Big Bang is an orgy. I'm sure it fits the plot fine?

From: [identity profile] bob_fish.livejournal.com
I support this solution. Plz be working in Olivia and Al.

Date: 2011-01-22 03:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
as worked out as it's gonna get yeah

see, i'm trying NOT to have an orgy in my big bang (but i have though well sex WILL give me word count). I ship all four together as a foursome. I'm fluid to my pairings here (unlike almost any other fandom)

Gojyo is a red head (yes he IS pink in the horrible first anime, the reload and gunlocks are SO MUCH BETTER) and the one who drives Jeep with the green eyes IS Hakkai and they are the most popular ship in all of this fandom (as is Sanzo/Goku).

And believe it or not the plot is pedophila/murder so orgy probably doesn't fit the plot damn it. (but yeah go look at my tags you'll see orgies)
