salomesensei, happy birthday (I wanted something porny but they wouldn’t cooperate). Haven't read
kiramaru7's posts yet. Hopefully this isn't too similar (noticed she's tackling similar subject matter)

Soma couldn’t sleep and he couldn’t quite blame his unfamiliar surroundings, though that played a part. Phantomhive’s guest room would have been more inviting with some sweet and spicy incense burning or a nice warm breeze blowing in. If he opened a window now, the only thing that would blow in would be a bone-biting damp and some snow.
It was that sense of unease that had plagued him ever since escaping his parents’ palatial home. Escape, ha, they barely paid him any attention. Days may have slipped by before they noticed his note saying where he had gone and why. The real unease came from the nights of feeling Agni was hiding something from him. He needed to know what West’s hold was on his friend.
Ciel would help but only because it suited him. The boy made Soma feel ashamed of his own decadence and dependence. He had thought his upbringing to be bad, loveless, until he heard Ciel’s story. The boy had his childhood ripped away from him, leaving him cold and determined. When Soma considered his life, he realized he had only been a step or two away from the sinfulness that nearly destroyed Agni. That was just one more thing his servant, his friend had done for him; kept his easy, wealthy lifestyle from corrupting him.
Tears gathered in the corners of his eyes but Soma refused to shed them. Maybe he could learn from Ciel. The runt had strength and Soma needed that for himself. He would break West’s hold on Agni; he would rescue Mina. The only other option was failure and that left him colder than the English wind rattling the glass in their frames.
