I had to deal with 5th graders today. I volunteer yearly to be one of the Profs to do a workshop for the kiddos when they visit campus. They love it (I do a lab with skittles) Yikes. They're draining. BUT unlike my students they answered my questions so eagerly with no fear of being wrong, they ASKED me what I wanted to be called (unlike one of my advisees whom I've never seen who came up to me right after this and said, are you Dana?). I respect elementary school teachers. I'd have gone insane.

I got some mitsuba in the mail from [livejournal.com profile] silvrethorn and it looks healthy. I need to plant it and start cooking with it.

I updated my browsers. I hate them. AND now i find out no one knew they'd be incompatible with all the software i use at school. Whimpers.

Hey go have a looksee at [livejournal.com profile] fmagiftexchange for prompts and add some of your own if you can swing the vgifts for all the charities. I'm going to add mine tonight. I think with all the issues with LJ it didn't get much notice. (yes you have to join the comm to play)

In spite of the issues with LJ (and is wondering how long before word press or dreamwidth become the next target), [livejournal.com profile] help_japan has raised over 45K. that's pretty amazing. And I saw Japan and Mexico both got hit with big quakes today

And I got something in the mail today that I've wanted for years. I'm a Nielsen family member now. hee

Andrew Zimmern sums up WHY I have such issues with reality TV, especially the salacious ones. Stuff like this bothers me. The fact that so many of us rush to watch the worst of the human experience is disturbing.

And George Takei has made the OhMyyyyy ring tone for the iphone to benefit charity and I wish so much I had an iphone right now.

My cats were at it again. I split my heel open and didn't want to try and stand on it while shaving my legs so I sat on the lip of the tub. I didn't hear them push the door open. Then I felt a tongue on my thigh 0_0. I look down and Kanda's up on the tub. I can not persuade him to go away. WHile I'm trying this, a soft paw taps my butt. Here comes Soul 0_0 GO AWAY. Kanda leaps into the tub and starts diving along the bottom chasing the shaving foam. Soul is trying to bat him in the head. I get out and leave the two idiots to it.

I love Alexis. She is smart and sweet and maybe a little too good to be true (witness the fight with her friend this week) But still, I think she's a great character and my favorite Castle moments are with her and her father. It's refreshing to see a good and healthy relationship on a show. This year seems there was less of her, enough that I noticed. I always want to see more of her

Just up the street from the library. The blue one was for sale. I actually looked into it but Jackson still thinks the real estate bubble hasn't burst. This is across the street from the pizza joint i like

I'm right there with you on Alexis. She rocks (as do most of the characters on that show -- it's tight on character development, which makes up for the unbelievability of the rest of it!).

I want to sign up for Junior Achievement this year (we need a TON of volunteers), but I'm sort of worried about our consolidation and I'm not sure if I can take the time! Working with the kids for a day is fun, but yeah, kudos to elementary students!

Clickies!

I love Alexis.

The fifth graders must love coming to see you. Hopefully you'll have inspired them to keep learning.

Your cats.

Teachers are awesome. Insane... but awesome. ;)

I'm glad that I volunteer and don't get PAID to sled hockey/do stuff with kids anymore... I DID have a conference call with the OTHER COACHES... I am Head Kids' Coach OFFICIALLY next season. (So four kids... lol... we'll grow. :)

Sounds like "your" kids had a great time. You sound like an excellent teacher, even just for the day. You kept them engaged and eager.

I wish HALF the people I know were as passionate and eager about learning as my students were.

That is cultivated. I was lucky to get them before they were utterly ruined.

I am PISSED OFF that university students who are PAYING to go to school aren't soaking up every bit of information they can!

I ALWAYS took more than 12 credits... as I figured that after 12 it was FREE other than books or lab fees. I also calculated how much it cost to skip a class or not pay attention or be unprepared. Way back in the 90s at SUNY? 38 bucks per class/hour.

I wouldn't waste my money OR my parents' money.

I fail to understand the mentality.

Your cats are hilariously naughty. Your heel sounds VERY VERY ouchy.

I want an iPhone too. Just for that ringtone. I wonder if ATT has it for my Palm? WHO am I kidding? They won't.

Fandom impresses me with its generosity a lot of the time. It also disappoints me with the entitlement/stupidity. I'd most DEFINITELY understand a delay in titles/properties. :(

well yay for you. That is very cool.

I don't get the attitude either, not at all. I always took gobs of credits and paid extra for them.

my cats are nuts

my heel hurts

I always want the phone

and ditto with fandom

Cats are freaks.

I have immense respect for grade school teachers. Better them than me, I say.

Reality TV gives me the shits. Travel shows, like Zimmerns, are pretty good but this whole watch people destroy themselves... I work in a hospital. I see that everyday. (We have a 45 year old who is dying thanks to drinking his liver to death.)

the greed of things like amazing race and survivor are huge turns off for me and watching some family's misery, I don't get it. I suppose forensic shows are reality tv but they serve a cause a little less salacious than winning a million dollars by being an ass on tv

you're a nelson family member now? so they really do exist. now you are watching tv for all of us. my reality tv experience is mostly confined to top chef, although I will admit to being occasionally guiltily hooked on America's next top model (!?), and italy's version of Supernanny......

yes to everything you said about Alexis.

Is there a cat whisperer guy ?

They do exist and I'm one of them. I guess if you consider cops and america's most wanted and the other forensic shows reality then yes I guess I do watch some but I don't watch any where you compete for anything.

Alexis rocks

no one is that brave
