it was NOTHING compared to the latest verizon saga
but first, sorry for all the posts without warning. i was trying to get up them up before Verizon screwed me again
I don’t even know where to begin to put this Verizon experience into words. The last few nights my connection has been dropping off. I call in and tell him I’m getting ‘page cannot be displayed messages.’
Tech – that’s your computer. It’s not our program (before I’m even FINISHED telling him what is happening.
Me – every time I call you tell me that and then find something wrong on your end. (I then give him the rss numbers that tells them the connectivity.
Tech – oh, that’s poor coverage. Sorry, we can’t fix it.
Me – I understand that but this is a n ew problem.
Tech – no it’s not. It’s just a new symptom.
For one and a half hours we go round and round with him talking to me like I’m fucking two years old and retarded to boot. I finally tell him to stop treating me like a child and that I wanted his name. He hurriedly changes at least SOME of his arrogant highhanded bullshit because he knows I’m calling a manager as soon as this call is over.
He keeps insisting that there is nothing anyone can do to help me and I keep telling him that at least other techs tried.
Tech - I don’t want to give you any short term solutions like the other techs
Me – look short term solutions are all I have open to me
Tech in a tone that suggests he would pat me denigratingly on the head were we in the same room, like maybe I’m a puppy who wet the carpet. – but I don’t want you frustrated.
Me – look you doing NOTHING is what’s frustrating me
In the end, he did absolutely nothing. Didn’t check to see if it WAS the connection, not anything. He’s been doing this 10 year talking to 30 people a day so he’s ‘experienced’. He also tells me that living on the edge ‘corrupts the security key’ and it needs reset that’s why when I go to a good coverage zone it still doesn’t work. He proceeds to tell me what a corrupt key would do and it’s exactly what I said was happening. Does he fix it? No. By this time it’s 7 pm. I’m starving. I say fuck it and just sign off and hope the issue resolves itself or call back tomorrow. I was at the point of tears of frustration and to top it all off when I came back to get back on line it couldn’t even FIND the broadband device and I had to reboot.
And to top it all off my work computer today was SO SLOW you could count to 10 before the backspace button would work. In 4 hours I got 2 things done. At one point a student asked for something. i started it, went to the office microwaved lunch for FIVE minutes got back and it still wasn't done opening the file. But there's no money to replace it but if I should want to buy one for my office....
so there was no happiness today. My brother is being put on two immune suppressors today too b ut he's home now. we shall see.
Day Fourteen: Favorite older female character

LIke I said last night, mystery readers have always had great female characters. Sure there are a lot of hard boiled men but there have always been the lady detective practically from the beginning. Miss Marple is one of Dame Agatha Christie's many creations dating to the 1920's. She is one of the earliest (that I know of) cozy mystery detectives. She rocks. Quiet, dogged, nosy and smart, this old gal has it all. If not her, I would have put in Jessica Fletcher but i suspect Miss Marple was that character's inspiration. This is my favorite actress to play her (coincidentally Angela Landsbury has played her once

i love mossy rocks
ETA - I forgot, mom called me after the Big Bang Theory which was about them going in costume to a new year's party (a rerun we'd both missed).
Mom - You've done this haven't you.
Me - you've helped me make the outfits. You KNOW I have
Mom - did I tell you there was a huge, cool looking comic book store near the hospital where you brother was
me - no
Mom 0 i might sell some of your comics there
Me - NO
