It was bordering on too hot for me but there wasn't a cloud in the sky and there was a nice breeze. I went hiking at Lake Katherine again. (wrote about it in reflective detail in regards to writing at [livejournal.com profile] jana_denardo). It was very muddy from the rain. I did get some photos (which you will see soon. I have like one or two more flood pictures and um I forgot the camera in the car).

I missed most of the spring flowers but I did get some of them. It was just too wet to get out there during the prime season not to mention I'm terribly busy. But I did get out there and I'm very happy to see some fresh ferns and a few wild flowers. There are a few homes out that way I'd like to own too.

People always think the woods are silent. These are people who've never really been in the woods. It's silent in the winter but now, no way. If the woods are silent, something is wrong. The animals are on alert (or just not there which is wrong). The trees whisper to you. It's easy to see how so many legends spring up about forests. The trees whisper, breathing into your ear. The birds call. The insects buzz about (and sting, bastard mosquitos).

It was a slick walk down but easy enough or so i thought. Now I'm tightening up like a bitch. I should just take a vicodin before the big faculty meeting tomorrow since we're in a very uncomfortable room for hours.

I really want this book

I really REALLY want this tarot

I'm happy with the bidding at [livejournal.com profile] helpthesouth. People I do not know (I'm assuming they're from the Buffy side of fandom since it seems to be the only thing in common I can see when I go to their profiles)are bidding on me. THat makes me feel kinda good, like I have someone who likes me and I didn't even know it.

fanfic offer

The original fic stuff is a little harder sell this time though.

I just about killed all my seedlings leaving them out in the heat today (not pictured) oops

I learned very early in life, circa 8 years old or younger...thank you daddy for teaching me the proper lore and wilderness techniques, that if the trees even to be suddenly holding their breath....THAT would be a good time to get the hell up in one of those trees for a good look see. If suddenly all the birds fall silent or take wing at once...fucking RUN!...or at least hide. If crickets suddenly shut up it means intruders. And if all the wildlife has vanished...oh dear.

That's how I knew one year, while on a crystal mining trip in Arkansas, that we were in a butt load of trouble. Walking back into camp I quietly noted to my walking buddy that things had gotten way too quiet...and hey...the ravens are missing. We automatically looked up at the clear sky, at each other..then I yelled to the men "Strike camp NOW! AS IN FIVE MINUTES AGO..MOVE IT!" We outran a tornado all the way to the Missouri line.

So yeah...when in the woods listen to what they are telling you.

Yeah, when the wildlife goes to ground, you know you're in trouble.

That's what daddy told me all those years ago. "When the animals go to ground...go with them...something bad is coming."

My seedlings all died in the RAIN. Drowned. *sobs* I do have three or four or a jillion tomatoes to plant, though. And the rose, and some irises and some day lilies and....

*grabby hands* at the book and the tarot set!

Woods aren't ever quiet! They're so noisy...except up at Zog's, where [livejournal.com profile] silvrethorn and I were walking around in June and it was weird and silent.

these were tomatos so we'll see. good luck with planting.

that tarot set is beautiful though I'm not sure abotu the weird side story with it.

that forest has something WRONG in it

Mine were tomatoes, too, and some zinnias. And thanks.

I didn't read the story, I just perused the art. Briefly.

Well, it was attacked* to that house that had SOMETHING WRONG with it, too. The Blair Witch, Jason, or an extinct grizzly could've been in those woods and I wouldn't have been at all surprised.

*attached. ATTACHED. Though the other works, too.

Hmmmm. Well, then.

The Paulding Lights were another thing entirely. Let me put on my 1,000 yard stare for that place...

For something that seemed like nothing, it was definitely creepy, both times I went.

omg "How to Mellify A Corpse" looks ridiculously amazing! *__*

The hike sounded fun, though I'm sorry about the pain. A vicodin might be in your best interest!

I found that interesting about the helpthesouth, too - of the five drabbles I offered, all but two were in the HP fandom, and I don't know any of the people who bid. It's a very nice feeling.

doesn't it. speaking of which did you ever get the info on dissolving corpses?

the hike was and vicodin might be

ELD is having the same thing crop up on the bidding. It does make me feel good.

The DESERT is silent. The woods are an endless and deafening cacophony of sound.

Now, a piney forest, above the desert, can be silent, but usually the wind moaning through the pine needles and the amazing sound of the elk during mating season...

God, I miss camping...

yes the desert was eerily silent unless you managed to spook a rattler. The desert made me nervous.

I'm not so sure I miss camping but I do miss going into the woods regularly

The drought has been so intense we haven't been camping in years.

That sounds like a very nice hike! Can't wait to see the pictures. You really live in such a beautiful area.

The plants look good! And I love the gargoyle (is that what it is?)! It's cute.

We got up to 100 yesterday. And today it'll be 98. But I say once you get above 90 here in the dry heat it all feels the same. It's just damn hot. lol

That book looks like it would have a lot of fun info.

You may have lost a bunch of seedlings but the plants in the pictures look nice and healthy.
