and now that I have your attention with that I shall make you wait until you hear about my day.

Had to drive 50 miles to see the dermatologist (he does come to my area but only once a week and the local one is booked until sept so screw that). I know have three new diagnoses. Well I pretty much already knew all three but I knew the one needed treated. The rosacae is getting worse. Now, I'm not going to avoid the triggers (caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods and stress) and even if I did it's not going away on it's own. We don't know exactly what rosacea is but it's treatable with antibiotic ointments/oral.

The weirdo rash I get all over, especially on my legs, is just what I thought it was. Heat rash. I got it at temps just over 70. THink about that one. WhenI say I do not like heat, what I mean is I get very ill. Now there are two seperate skin issues every time the temp gets above 70. The lumpy scars are dermatofibromas, benign fiberous tumors (two of the worst are from horsefly bites in FL). I might have one or two of them remove because they're painful.

I hit the big Krogers, got wine, an edamame hummus that's pretty good and a buttery brie. Whee. Went to the Chinese place i like for lunch and learned I don't much care for their Dragon and Phoenix. It was okay but bland. oh well.

Then I went to Shadows and Phenomena, an art exhibit in the Kennedy Museum of Art inside the Ridges. I was supposed to go Sat but as of this morning only one friend committed. I can always go back with them. It was an exhibit of 'supernatural' art with art by Corinne Botz, Mat Collishaw, Agnes Geoffray, Laura Larson, Hirsch Perlman, Adam Putnam, Dana Sherwood and Victor Vazquez. There was a photography exhibit upstairs by Lloyd Moore and a rotating permanent collection belonging to the museum's namesake (not related that i know of to THE Kennedys). They were collectors of SW Indian cultural art, African art and other things, at least three Lichensteins in the exhibit. I enjoyed the exhibits.

But what I really wanted was inside the ridges. For those of you who missed my photo spread last Labor Day, I'll make the museum portion the picture of the day (since it was rainy and creepy to boot today). The Ridges was designed by Dr. Kirkbridge in the mid 1800's with a grand plan for making a little village of the insane, where they farmed and worked and had ballroom dances. There are dozens of buildings at one point. Like many things, it was a good idea gone bad, getting over stuffed, under staffed and otherwise nigh-nightmarish by the end. It's made several haunted lists. A lot of it isn't open (asbestos). It's been obviously highly remodeled but still there is a strange air about it.

The docent was a retired Ohio Uni History prof, probably bored out of his mind and talked to me about everything, thrilled to learn I knew the history of the building, of the cemeteries and that I worked in a mental hospital and was now a prof. He was a nice old guy and knew one of the history profs (now retired) from my school. He was fascinated to know that my cousin was in Montessori which might have been a Kirkbridge design asylum (she wasn't insane, she had Downs syndrom and in the 1930's that's where they went). In telling this to MOm she said that Woodville Asylum (where my Grandmother worked for decades) was also of that design and that it was a rambling place. Also learned Mom worked there too. Never knew that. Three members of my family all worked in mental hospitals (or escape therefrom).

I was going to go get Indian food but decided it was too early for dinner and I have an expensive week coming up soon. Tried to get home. OU sucks. Can we just say that? STudents dart across the road without looking ALL the time. I don't know how more don't die. I did make it home.

SOOO you made it through that. How are my parents insane?

I sent dad this link for a R2D2 smoker and said MAKE IT.

I already built you one, but he wouldn't listen to me and ran away, I think the sand people got him…haven't seen him since!

The only thing I got left is a C3PO unit I built that looks like your mother and she won't shut up!

I also sent both my parents this link
become a tree after you die and told them I was going to do this with them once they're gone.

I have to be planted with a giant red wood so that I can dominate your father's little ginko.

Well...if you turn me into a potted plant, make sure you plant a Bristlecone Pine in my ashes so I can go on for another 5,000 year and out live your Mother.

This story irritated me. Yes there are more important stories to be irritated about surely but to put nearly 150 referees out of work because they wore pink whistles to support breast cancer research? They gave the man pushing for this email out in the article...

Photobucket

this is where you go into the museum and surely was the main reception area for the asylum

Your day sounds like far too much fun. *IS JEALOUS*

I'll have to point out the tree thing to Mom, as she and I both want to be cremated and "thrown up against a tree."

Your parents are being amusing today. XD

My mother has rosacae, and the ointment the dermatologist gave her really worked wonders.

Your day sounds like it was awesome! Not the stupid OU students, obviously, but the rest. The exhibit sounds excellent, and I love old asylums. There've been a few really cool documentaries on some in the last few months. I didn't know you worked in one at one point!

lol at your parents.

That article is disgusting. I can't believe those poor refs are being treated like that. But hell yes to them for wearing the whistles anyway!

i'm waiting on the CVS (ours takes hours and I wasn't waiting around) for the ointment

The day was pretty good.

I did my residency at the largest VA mental hospital in the country (at the time) in NY. We had serial killers.

my parents are so weird

yes exactly, yay to the refs

I think CVS pharmacies suck no matter where in the country you are. That's where my brother worked until about two weeks ago, so I know what those people get up to back there. 0_0

You got serial killers? I am so jealous! According to the terms with the air force scholarship, I will have to just go wherever they send me.

oh boy that's probably not what I need to know.

One of them punched me in the face.

I wanted to have the Air Force pay too, gah I wish the 80's had been different. good luck

Damn! Really? What happened?

They do have very cushy pay. It sucks that you couldn't get in. ): It was your eyesight, right?

I love that place. I want to go see it so badly.

Your parents rock. I saw that R2D2 smoker (via The Nerdist) and want it like crazy. Hee hee hee to your dad.

I hope there's enough of an outcry supporting those refs that the state gets over their stuffed-shirt bullshit and give them their jobs back.

I do too

Maybe someday!

I want a good smoker, period -- this is just a great way to dress it up! :D I've done some okay smoking with my old kettle Weber, but I'd just love to have a real smoker to do entire hams and turkeys!

Oh, and of course, George Takei rocks.

Such totally cool things. I want to be planted as a tree too. My Mom has already said she wanted to be creamated. I think I'll show her this and see if she wants to be a tree too. Your parents crack me up.

On that Rosacia, I have it too, and I have had a marked improvement since I started using my Mary Kay Miracle Set. I'm not kidding and I'm not just trying to sell stuff. It's definitely improved. This is also a claim supported by the Good Housekeeping Seal of approval. I haven't said anything to you about my business because you didn't express any interest when I started and asked for people interested in being one of my first 15 or 30 faces. I did some long distance facials that month too. I'd be glad to send you some samples to try if you want. One usage probably won't show a DRAMATIC difference, but I have seen people show a reduction in redness on the first try.

I really love that building too, and I want to explore it with Jana. I agree. Daytime first to get the feel of the place, and then after dark to feel the place.

Date: 2011-05-21 03:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
the tree is cool

sadly I've been highly allergic to everything Mary Kay makes (or at least everything I've ever tried. I had to go to the ER once with them when another friend did a make over for me which is how I learned of this little tidbit)

It's a neat building. They're sadly highly protective of it at night

Date: 2011-05-22 04:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com
That's bizarre... having to go to the ER. How long ago was that? I couldn't use MK until recently when they reformulated everything. Prior to that, the products made my skin burn, and over produce oil so the foundation would break up on my face after only a short time, and was very uncomfortable. Now the difference is huge.

Date: 2011-05-22 05:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com
Well, I can send you the samples if you want to test them for reaction first on a small place like an arm or something. If there is going to be a reaction it's usually within just a few minutes.

Date: 2011-05-22 05:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
you can if you want though I'm very happy with the stuff I'm using now

Date: 2011-05-22 06:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com
That's fine. I won't send them if you're not really interested. I only mentioned it because you seemed unhappy about the rosacea and I know that I've had a marked improvement since I started using the miracle set.

Date: 2011-05-22 09:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
right now the doc doesn't think the make up is irritating it so I'll stick with what I have and use the medicine on it and see what happens. Thanks though
