techie question

I get the feeling I just lost 3 hours and two scenes worth of my deadline story. I was typing it and saving it only my flash drive. Now the drive says it needs formating. It says this in both my computer and in the netbook (where I did all the work)

Any thoughts as to why it's doing that and is there anything I can do about it?

this is turning into a horrible day.

Guru says to check temp files if you were using Word or similar program. Try main windows folder. You may have to go in as Administrator. Look for something like a word file called temp. Often the first letter of your file is gone but the rest is there as a dot temp file. They often start with a tilda so you may be able to search for a tilda and check by date.

Try c:\users\username\APPDATA\Local\Temp\

(where username is your username)typed in your search area - it might take you to the right folder. It might not let you in, tho, because Windows is a security bitch.

You can also try the USB key on a different slot or computer.

That's the best Guru can do without knowing your system.

Also, have you checked out Google Docs? You can write, share, co author docs and spreadsheets and it saves it all online so you can access from anywhere. It's free!

There is also Dropbox that is a place to store things. You get 2 gig of room for free. Great for keeping stories.

yeah i mean i could have saved it on the netbook too but I've NEVER EVER had this happen with a flash. I mean if it was the old disc drive i would have saved both places. guess now i know

sadly there is no wifi at work so anything only is useless to me

the usb key has been in 5 slots in 2 computers no luck

i have no idea how to do this on my netbook, a full search turned up nothing
