I wish I could remember more of you. This was a very involved dream that made me over sleep (well that and I had a nice fullblown panic attack last night. WTF brain?)

It had a modern setting but it was as if we never evolved socially beyond the Rennaissance as far as the roles of women. The main character in the dream (me??) was a young woman of some means and her companion who was a demon bound to her (a hot demon I might add, naturally since apparently it's my subconscious that reads cheesy romances when I'm not looking).

The only part I remember had us getting ready to go to a ball and I was to meet the man that had been arranged for me, a would be husband who I hated. I had been told he was very abusive. The demon was beside himself trying to figure out ways to help me get rid of this dude and protect myself (I got the idea the man had a lot of bodyguards or something). I remember the demon trying to give me a magical item that he pulled out from under what looked like a futon: a railroad spike wrapped in red ribbon.

I gave him a look and said I couldn't possibly carry something that big in my purse on the dance floor. He went over to the fax machine/printer/whatever and got some picture off of it for a spell and tried to rip a plastic Jesus off an equally plastic lacy cross to turn into my weapon and even in the dream I was wondering where in the hell that came from, like I'd ever have that on my wall. I mean if I'm going for tacky Jesus it should at least involve seashells.

Demon boy gave it to me and I put it in my purse which was larger than most carry-on luggage (seriously he could have given me a tent pole wrapped in red ribbon and it would have fit) I gave a princessy sigh and whined I couldn't travel without my retinue and this was just too much. We step out into the hall and a brawl begins which sadly woke me up.

ah brain theatre, is there anything in the world like you?

Also my icon is Ed Gorey's Gashlycrumb Tinies go ahead, check that link out. This was one of my FAVORITE books as a kid. I used to check it out of the grade school library all the time (this should have prehaps worried my parents), this book and Bulfinch's mythology

This sounds almost like the background for my Trees Grow High story, with the demons bound do protect a princess....

Except it was far further back in time.

You do need a tacky Jesus with shells, seriously. I must find one of those for you.

hahahaha that is funny. I'm not sure I've read that one (oh probably but you know my brain)

My grandma HAD one for years and years. I wasn't allowed to touch it as a kid

You read it. You liked it. XD

No tacky Jesus stuff in my family. No one liked the whole imagery of him writhing on a cross.

well I did grow up Catholic. It's not a cross without a writhing Jesus

Yeah, yeah...no wonder Catholics like confessional and have kinks about paddling.

Yeah, your subconscious reads cheesy romances, 'cause that's basically just like 'em. Although without the demon, which makes it much more interesting. I bet you could write that into a great story! :D

"A is for Amy who fell down the stairs, B is for Basil, assaulted by bears..." Which is more disturbing, that you loved it as a kid or that I can recite it from memory?

Having a demon bound to you sounds useful. Or would be if the demon was more effective than the one in your dream. What's the use of being a demon if you can't even overcome one bad mortal boyfriend?

i suspect I was distracting the demon with sex knowing me

Haha, Gashlycrumb Tinies is a fun story. I feel sad but giddy at the same time when reading it.

You grew up Catholic, and your two favorite books as a kid were Gashlycrumb Tinies and Bullfinch's Mythology, and you wonder why you have bizarre dreams??!!?? Makes perfect sense to me! That's the makings of one helluva Jungian/Gothic archetype-fest. All you're missing are the dancing gargoyles.

FWIW, I think I can match or best you in the bizarre dream dept. - unfortunately, too many of mine turn into nightmares. But I have a whole lot of hugely funny/weird ones, as well - and I've been this way, with lots of weird dreams, as far back as I can remember.

(And c'mon. You were raised Catholic: do you really think that was a RAILROAD spike, tied in a RED ribbon? O___o )

hahaha well yes it does turn out that upbringing has a pretty huge wtf impact on life.

I get a lot of the serial killer nightmares but I'm pretty used to those now.

Okay i'm HOPING it's a railroad spike in ribbon

Love the Gashlycrumb Tinies. I remember Neville, who died of ennui. (I think it was Neville.)

Great dream! Too bad you woke up before it finished.

Panic attack? With all you have to deal with? I can't imagine why.
