I made it home via my surgeon's office in Columbus. I didn't get good news. He shares my apprehension over the range of motion in my arm and agrees that all the muscles spasms are coming from overcompensation of my other muscles trying to deal with the scar tissue. He also felt my PT's weren't aggressive enough (agreed). So he's rewritten my PT regime and gah what am I going to do now? There are so many to do so many times a day it could be a job in and or itself.

I went to Joe's Crab shack for coconut shrimp since I haven't had it in forever. I did eye up those seafood bakes they always put in the ads. Holy hell, they range from 20-40$. I think not. However, if I had remembered that Whole Food does food samples AND wine on fridays I would have eaten in the supermarket. I hit WF and Trader Joes for some good eats.

I did stop at B&N to potty, eye their paltry manga collection and get a starbucks coffee to fortify me for the trip home. I was talking to the young barista and he was asking me where I was from since I mentioned I had a long trip. Down near the WV/OH/KY border. Oh I know where that's at. My wife is from Jackson. ....I practical live in Jackson. I teach at U of Rio Grande. My wife went there.... small world.

I got home to find out almost ALL my plants are dead. Thanks for nothing neighbor. I'm not paying your ass. I also found an all apt meeting notice in my door for wed. I'll have to go find out what all the grievances were about. I'm not too worried they're about me. The worst thing I've done is let the garden get weedy this summer and occasinally my music is loud but not like half of them. I DO worry about ROy.

I just got off the phone with my brother. He and his wife went to Gettysburgh this weekend (his first trip in 2 years since he was so ill) He's on a ghost tour trying to recreate the path the ding dongs in Ghost Adventurers took. SiL put the kibosh on staying in a haunted hotel.

I can relate to the shoulder issues, as you know. I have been putting back going back to my ortho guy - I need arthrograms on both shoulders that I have been dragging my feet about. Let's get an invasive procedure, so I can be told either there is nothing they can do for me, or I need surgery again. Lose - lose. But I can't put it off much longer, they are both getting a lot worse, and I need to at least find out what my options are. And it's possible some kind of PT might help a little, I don't know. I'm hoping to start doing some water PT soon anyway, so maybe at least I can do a little for my shoulders than with that.

Mmmmmmmm coconut shrimp.... I found a fantastic sounding recipe for coconut rice pudding I might try my hand at this weekend, except I'll sub stevia & splenda for the sugar.

yeah that does suck. You can always try PT but yeah, you'll eventually have to go see the ortho

that sounds good too. I think I'm allergic to stevia. it tastes horribly bitter and gives me headaches

From: [identity profile] helliongoddess.livejournal.com
Wow, I've never heard of anyone having issues with stevia -but then I guess your body can develop allergies to anything - I have all kinds of allergies now I didn't have ten years ago. I can't handle cardboard boxes without my hands and arms breaking out in huge welts - I would have been in trouble in the library all those years if I'd had that allergy then! But I did realize some time ago that nutrasweet was not good for me, I don't mind the taste, but it always gives me migraines, and even upsets my stomach sometimes. And they put the damn shit in *everything!* It was even in the darn prep drink I had to drink for my colonoscopy! Like I didn't have enough trouble keeping that dreadful stuff down, as it was. And it's not like it made it taste any less horrendous, either. I really don't know why they bothered - it just added insult to injury.

Yeah, I was just talking with my GP about the ortho Thursday. I guess I'll make an appointment sometime Sept. or Oct. Not looking forward to it, thouogh. At least I've lost a bunch of weight since he last saw me, he can't jump all over me for that.

BTW, meant to say before, glad to hear your brother is doing so much better!

points to another on my list, that's 2. Acutally I know several people who get the bitter not sweet taste from stevia. I get the headaches even worse with nutrasweet. I'm ok with splenda.

that is a weird reaction to cardboard though. good luck with the docs though

thanks

I don't like Stevia either (I can taste it in ANYTHING -- me, who drinks aspartame like it's going out of style!).

But OMG, coconut rice pudding...!!! I made it once and it was unholy divine! (And double not for you, what with the rice AND the sugar, right?)

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
I once got into an argument with someone about stevia but yes this is my reaction to it too.

i bet it is and yes there is NOTHING in coconut rice pudding I should ever eat

your neighbor's a dick. Coincidentally, today is national remind a dick they're a dick day. Stiffing this ignoramus on their pay is a great way to do that!

It sucks that your shoulder is in so much pain :( I'm afraid I'm no help other than I offer my sympathy (and if I had mind numbing weed I'd share, but I don't. double sad face)

And I live in Louisville, dunno how far from you that is, but considering some of my LJ friends are from WAAAAAAY far away, we're practically neighbors it seems! I'm going to Myrtle Beach the day after Labor Day, I'm not looking forward to driving through the mountains, but I am looking forward to being on that empty beach. Hope you get some well deserved rest and everything looks and feels better to you in the morning.

snort then I could have begun that celebration with my father this morning...

I'm okay with the pain. I turned down the pain killers again but I need to find more time for the PT

that's about 3-31/2 hours from here. I still want to get out there to waverly hall's ghost tour some day.

enjoy the beach

You know, I've lived here all my life and have never been to Waverly Hills. I used to be really into paranormal investigating myself a few years ago, but the group I was in kept shunning me and not assigning me to investigations and so I quit. I had digital audio recorders, modified my camera to take infrared photos and videos (where you use the light from a remote control for a flashlight!) and all sorts of fun stuff. If you ever get to go, let me know I'd love to tag along, even if it's just the daytime historical tour.

Now I don't know how much of this is true because I'm sure it would be on the news more if it was, but I'd heard the owners of Waverly Hills were trying to restore the property into a haunted hotel. I know they had restored part of the 1st floor and the laundry house so that visitors would have at least 1 place they could go to the bathroom and watch the little videos you see at the beginning of the tours. As far as I know right now, it isn't a hotel. I dunno if that would up the activity or not.

and also, I wonder how many people know that in addition to WH being a TB sanitorium that after it closed it was reopened as a SANITARIUM for insane elderly people. My grandfather's aunt was in there. They had it all too: shock therapy, straight jackets, padded rooms the whole 9 yards. I'd heard from my grandmother that patients were beaten a lot up there, that it was easy to blame bruises on being restrained after a 'crazy attack'. I wonder how many ghosts are there from Woodhaven Geriatrics Center.

Date: 2011-08-20 01:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
I've not seen that part in most write ups on WH. I've been able to pick out old sanitariums just by driving by them. scary places.

For that matter one of my medical residencies was in a mental hospital housing the criminally insane (no ETC but padded rooms, yeah)

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
that's too bad. I'm not active right now due to the remote area I live in (2 hour drive just to get to meetings, sorry no) when I first started all we had were pads of paper for automatic writing and evps were on tape recorders (the walkman size ones)

I'll keep it in mind though if I go out there. If I remember right the price was prohibitive.

wow, I saw that place on the Ghost HUnter show and it was in horrible condition. they would need buckets of money for that. That said, if they did I'd stay.

Date: 2011-08-20 01:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sonjajade.livejournal.com
oh yes, no doubt about it, the size of the building and the state of disrepair its in would take substantial amounts of money to fix everything. It's why the 2 hr tours are $22 and the overnight 8 hr tours are $100.

This might be a rumor, but I heard the guy who owned it before the Mattingly family wanted to build that giant Jesus statue that's in Brazil on the property. But because Waverly Hills was listed as a historical place, he couldn't just demolish the building, so he opened it up to the public and asked them to trash the place and speed up the process of having it condemned. The city forced him to sell the property and the Mattingly family has spent all that time and effort into restoring and cleaning it up.

ETA here's the link for the news blurb about Waverly being turned into a hotel, but that was just after the housing market slump and the recession and all, so it probably got scraped. I don't think Chase would loan out 18 mil to anyone anymore. http://www.shortnews.com/start.cfm?id=72599

yeah it was the overnight one I wanted to do but I don't have 100$ I can toss around. even 22$ is pretty steep for a ghost tour.

oh geez, that wouldn't surprise me any of it.

thanks for the link

ok, last thing then I'll drop it!! Turns out the Jesus statue was no lie: "* (Date Unconfirmed) 1998 - Waverly is considered for demolition as Bob Alberhasky seeks funding for the erection of a 150 ft. tall statue of Jesus Christ and a adjoining Christian meditation center. The project was later abandoned due to the lack of funding." http://whsmemorial.tripod.com/id28.html

...I can't imagine a 150 ft tall Jesus smiling down on Valley Station (the area of town Waverly is in). Although, maybe that's what those degenerate rednecks need out there is Jesus standing over them. If you're not afraid of the ghosts, be afraid of the redneckery that's out there.

oh god. At least you've got pure redneckery out there. We've got this pseudo Jersey Shore meets deep south redneckery here in the city. They think they're cool but really the're just rednecks in louis vitton and other designer names. Oh, and the more custom the car, the redder the neck. XD

Good luck with the new PT. I hope it helps. I was getting funny looks today at work for doing my carpal tunnel exercises there. DON'T CARE, wrists were hurting.

Was Joe's any better than it was the last time we went in Florida? Sis KS wants to go desperately, but after the service/food I had the last two times I went, I didn't want to spend that much money again and be disappointed.

Dear Neighbor: See if I give you any money again. PBBT.

I hope Roy's okay, too.

Date: 2011-08-20 03:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah I don't care about the looks

It was good and crowded but the prices are even higher. the coconut shrimp was the cheapest thing there at 13$

different neighbor. that one had pneumonia

Roy's fine but i'm afraid he was one of the complaints

Date: 2011-08-20 04:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com
Eeep. Yeah, that's a bit expensive, plus we'd have to drive 2 hours to get there. Watch, they'll want to stop during the September trip. The dogs will be with us though! A good excuse? Right?

Ahhh, I see.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I hope Roy's okay and not one of the complaints.

so glad your brother had a day out. I know how worried you were about how he was depressed after the op...

I'm one of those people who only tastes bitter when they taste stevia.

I avoid the sugar thing by making cocoanut mango shrimp. make a nice mango salsa, quick saute shrimp (i add garlic) after a sec before they are done add your yummy mango salsa, cook another few secs, add coconut flakes etc and wala!

Date: 2011-08-20 02:13 pm (UTC)

stevia is not only bitter, it gives me headaches

actually Joe's had a recipe much like that and that sounds totally yummy

Eek on the increased PT. Hope it helps, though. And I'm really glad to read that your brother is doing well enough to go out on weekend trips. After his initial reaction post-surgery, I was concerned.

Hope the apartment meeting is about something other than Roy.

Beautiful picture.

thank you very much . Yes I was too. My brother is, well vain. I knew he'd have issues with the appearance of the bag but now that the post-op pain is gone AND all the pain he was in, he's doing great

I'm pretty sure it's about the general redneck asshattery of the people who lie here

thanks

I once, a long time ago, looked up from he paper my PT had given me and asked "You do know I work, right?"

She said, "How attached are you to walking?"

"Less than I am to haveing a roof over my head."

The odd thing is that all my PTs and Drs agree that I am managing my injurys better than most of the people they see. Mind you I've had 26 years to figure out how to manage it.

Date: 2011-08-20 06:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
snort. yeah, this isn't my first round of PT. I'm a frequent flyer but the diabetes is complicating the picture as diabetes often does

Date: 2011-08-20 06:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bodgei.livejournal.com
yeah diabetes seems to manage to complicate everything.
